Job description

Stigma Grow, an innovative and growing cannabis company, is looking for a Senior Accountant to take a hands-on role in managing full-cycle accounting and financial operations. This role requires a highly organized individual capable of managing multiple entities, including bookkeeping, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate reporting to the CFO must possess a CPA and have experience in manufacturing or related industries. This is an onsite position with no availability for remote work. Candidate must reside in Alberta.General Accounting & Financial Reporting:

  • Manage full-cycle accounting within the manufacturing sector, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Managing month-end and year-end closing processes, including bank reconciliations, intercompany accounts, and general ledger entries.
  • Compile monthly financial reports for all companies with detailed analysis of the financial performance.
  • Calculate, prepare, and issue documents such as invoices, account statements, and other financial documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of the annual budget, financial forecasts, and cash flow analysis.

Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:

  • Assist with compliance of relevant cannabis industry regulations, including CRA and Health Canada requirements.
  • Preparation of provincial excise tax for regulatory reporting.
  • Prepare and manage Canadian sales tax reporting.
  • Liaise with external auditors to manage and assist in audits, ensuring proper documentation and controls are in place. Support the preparation and filing of corporate tax and sales tax, ensuring compliance with industry-specific tax laws and regulations.

Internal Controls and Best Practices:

  • Establish and maintain internal accounting controls, ensuring that all financial processes comply with industry standards and regulations.
  • Develop and implement accounting best practices to support the company’s growing operations.

Accounts Payable and Receivable Management:

  • Assist accounts receivable process by ensuring timely preparation of invoices to customers and collections.
  • Ensure timely payment of accounts payable and management of vendor relations.

Controller and Back-Up Functions:

  • Serve as a backup to the Assistant Controller, assisting with high-level financial planning and strategy.

Other duties as required.Qualifications:Certification: CPA required.Experience: 3+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in the cannabis, manufacturing, or other regulated industries.Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with Health Canada regulation and CRA regulations relating to Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis industry is an asset.

Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles and financial regulation.Knowledge of IFRS is an asset.Skills: Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
