Job title:
Research Fellow

Job description
For informal enquiries, please contact Sebastien Perrier (Professor) at [email protected].A new position is available in the group of Professor Sébastien Perrier to study the synthesis and application of polymer nanoparticles. The Perrier Group recently developed a novel approach to engineer unique polymer nanoparticles with structures controlled at the molecular level. Our process relies on the synthesis of block copolymers by a radical process, and their assembly into nanoparticles. The use of free radical polymerisation enables us to incorporate functionalities within the particles which can direct their assembly and final properties. We have already demonstrated the applications of such structures in fields ranging medicine, viscosity modifiers, encapsulations and paint. This project will explore further the design of the particles with applications as property modifiers of a range of non-polar liquids. We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.About YouYou will have completed or be near completion of a PhD or equivalent in Chemistry and have experience in polymer synthesis and characterisation. You will have experience in functional polymers, in particular polyacrylics or polyesters (including polylactides), and will also have experience in the synthesis of block copolymers and the use of living polymerisation, ideally reversible deactivation radical polymerisation. You must be able to work individually as well as having strong interpersonal and communication skills to work as part of a team and form collaborations. You will have experience of delivering projects to tight deadlines and a record in communicating your work via publications and conference communications. For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description. If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the .
