KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Technical, Leadership, People and Resource management)

The post holder will:

• Promote collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders across Oxfam affiliates and programmes, within and outside the GHT to support the delivery of effective, high quality humanitarian programmes in line with Oxfam’s vision for humanitarian preparedness and response in line with our humanitarian approaches promoting participation, feminist principles and partnership.

• Promote integrated gender aware and transformative humanitarian responses across sectoral programmes which demonstrate accountability to beneficiaries and are consistent with Oxfam policies and international quality standards

• Ensure that programme design and implementation is consistent with Oxfam’s quality and accountability standards, emergency guidelines and protocols, the Core Humanitarian Standard and that work meets Sphere Standards and other external quality commitments.

The Gender Lead will undertake the responsibilities listed below. Time allocations are approximate and will vary considerably over time. The Gender Lead will be expected to travel for up to three months per year.

Management

People, budgets, assets, projects and decision making (30%)

• Convene and delegate technical responsibilities for Advisors and HSPs in their technical area of competence for the allocation of time according to their role

• Support advisors in the regional pools for coordinating the delivery in the countries and regions for their specific technical area.

Analysis and Problem Solving

Information, complexity, creativity and forward planning 40%

• Analyse the development in the specific technical area of gender and developing a clear steer for Oxfam to position, develop programming and to influence the sector.

• Work with colleagues in the GHT, regional centres and country offices to ensure a gender transformative, coherent and timely response. The gender lead will contribute proactively in their work, as reference for gender and feminist principles specifically, to the humanitarian approaches of the GHT and commitments and expectations.

Impact

Contacts, communication, advice, and consequences 30%

• Proactively promote and support through specific initiatives and inter sectorial work people centred responses in their technical areas which are accountable, safe and which demonstrate adherence to safe programming and gender mainstreaming which can be demonstrated through quality MEAL

• Work closely with other key technical team leaders such as FES, Protection and WASH to work in a coherent and coordinated fashion from the point of view of regional and country teams

Other

• Understanding of and commitment to adhere to equity, diversity, gender, child safety and staff health and wellbeing principles
