Overview: The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles (the Y) is seeking a cause-driven youth development professional to create, develop, enhance and manage curriculums and program implementation for older youth programs for middle and high school students participating in YMCA programs. Such programs as Global Change Agents (GCA), Model United Nations (MUN), Boys and Young Men of Color (BYMOC), After School Clubs & Enrichment and other session-based and school-based YMCA programs for teenagers. The ideal candidate will be able to appraise, develop, gather feedback, train/facilitate, observe and evaluate the successful implementation of curriculums for teen programs. The Curriculum Specialist will also train and facilitate trainings for teen leaders to ensure that they can execute and implement the curriculums for various programs. A successful candidate will create and develop participant workbooks, worksheets, facilitator guides, presentation, resource sheets, etc., to ensure successful execution of program curriculums. The scope of this work will begin with teens, but as projects are completed, the scope will evolve to other youth serving programs. The end goal is that the YMCA’s youth development program department has tangible program curriculums that can be shared with other YMCA’s and schools as we build and scale up programming.Qualifications:

  • Age: Twenty-one (21) years old or older.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction or a related field or its equivalent in academic preparation and/or experience; Master’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • Related Experience: At least 3 years of experience teaching or leading programs for middle school and high school students, including experience that emphasizes leadership, service learning, diversity & inclusion, global learning, civic engagement, equity and financial literacy. At least 2 years of experience training and/or leading program leaders in implementing curriculum and/or instructional strategies.
  • Licenses & Certification: Teaching credential, preferred, but not required.
  • Immunizations & Physical: Completion of TB clearance within seven (7) days of hire.

Work Environment/Minimum Physical Requirements

  • You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Job is performed in indoor as well as outdoor environments throughout the year.
  • Ability to lift 30-35lbs
  • Job is based out of a YMCA facility. This is not a remote position.
  • Reliable transportation, as this position does require travel to program sites for evaluations and support. This position also requires travel to off-site locations throughout LA County for special events, meetings, trainings, clusters, workshops, and other travel related to the position. All work-related mileage in excess to normal daily community is a reimbursable employee expense.

What you will do:

  • Appraise current program offerings and curriculums particularly around programs for middle school and high school students.
  • Develop curriculums, participant workbooks and facilitator guides for various YMCA programs, including, but not limited to: Global Change Agents, Model United Nations, Boys and Young Men of Color, After School Clubs for High School students, Model Legislature & Court, Youth Institute and other older youth programs, both existing and new.
  • Gather feedback from and work in partnership with YMCA teen leaders, center leadership and program leadership to develop meaningful program curriculums for older youth.
  • Train, facilitate, and prepare program staff and volunteers to execute curriculums.
  • Implement program curriculums at YMCA’s, community and school based program sites, ensuring that facilitators and program leaders are well equipped to execute the curriculums.
  • Observe and evaluate program and program curriculum implementation to determine program efficacy and engagement. Tailor program curriculums based on observations and evaluations.
  • Evaluate and collect data on program efficacy and impact using tools and available resources.
