Director, RxFiles Academic DetailingThe RxFiles is Saskatchewan’s academic detailing service whose mandate is to provide evidence informed, objective, comparative drug information and promote optimal drug therapy. The service considers available evidence and clinical experience, synthesized into practical information resources. Information is then delivered to physicians, pharmacists and nurse practitioners all over North America (and abroad) via academic detailing visits, conference presentations, and distribution of written (printed/digital) educational materials.Primary Purpose: The RxFiles Director will oversee, supervise and evaluate the delivery of all RxFiles activities, operations, products and services.Nature of Work: As the RxFiles Director, you will provide leadership to the entire RxFiles team and ensure that RxFiles activities/operations/products/services are integrated within the operational and educational programs of the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition. You will be responsible for the oversight, development, maintenance, revision, distribution, and evaluation of: (1) evidence informed educational materials, (2) interventions to promote appropriate drug use in Saskatchewan, (3) interventions to promote appropriate drug use internationally, and, (4) academic detailing visits with health professionals within Saskatchewan. Your focus will be strategic, long-term in scope, and with consideration for provincial, national and international factors and opportunities. You will be expected to build effective collaborative networks locally, nationally, and internationally.As part of your leadership role, you will create, maintain and implement a strategic plan that integrates with and complements the strategic plans of the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition and the University of Saskatchewan. You will also evaluate the impact and success of RxFiles products and services and disseminate the research outputs locally, nationally, and internationally. You will also oversee the integration of pharmacy learners into the activities of RxFiles and integrate the activities of RxFiles into health science undergraduate programs at the University of Saskatchewan.Overseeing and managing the budget and all financial operations of RxFiles will be your responsibility. This includes seeking new and innovative funding sources. Recruiting, hiring and supervising all RxFiles staff will also be your responsibility. You will report to a faculty designate within the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, as assigned by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition.This position in located on campus in Saskatoon and you will be provided office space within the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition. Typical Monday – Friday daytime in-person work hours will be expected, physically on the Saskatoon campus, but some flexibility may be occasionally required (e.g., sporadic evening or weekend activities). Travel will be uncommon but may include sporadic conference or meeting attendance outside of Saskatoon.Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
- Regularly update the RxFiles strategic plan.
- Implement and evaluate progress toward, achievement of, and reporting of all strategic priorities within the RxFiles strategic plan.
- Recruit, retain and supervise a team of academic detailers, writers, consultants, and support staff.
- Find and retain sustainable funding for all RxFiles operations and provide all necessary reporting to existing funding agencies.
- Oversee and manage the RxFiles budget and spending.
- Lead research and evaluation of RxFiles services and products using appropriate / rigorous research methodologies that are disseminated via appropriate academic activities (e.g., peer reviewed academic publications, research abstracts).
- Maintain and Chair an external advisory committee that meets regularly.
- Network with relevant external professional groups, organizations, and academic detailing programs in Saskatchewan, Canada, and the United States.
- Network and collaborate with relevant internal University stakeholders.
- Oversee the regular updating, distribution, printing, pricing, and sale of all RxFiles written print/digital products.
- Identify new RxFiles written print/digital products that are needed and oversee the creation of these new materials.
- Maintain and update the RxFiles website.
- Oversee the regular development and provision of multiple annual academic detailing topics within Saskatchewan that meet or exceed targets set out in funding arrangements and Ministry of Health contracts.
- Oversee the organization and delivery of an annual conference, targeted at health professionals across Canada.
- Oversee integration of pharmacy experiential training learners within RxFiles activities.
- Oversee integration of RxFiles activities and products within both undergraduate programs at the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition and within other health science programs at the University of Saskatchewan.
- Write an annual report that summarizes RxFiles activities, operations, and financials.
- Update and maintain the Terms of Reference for all RxFiles internal committees.
- Engage and commit to ongoing personal professional development.
- Create and maintain a policy and procedures manual that includes all core RxFiles human resources, business, and administrative activities.
- Devise evaluation strategies to monitor program performance and determine the need for improvements.
- Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and University policies.
- Keep Dean/Dean designate informed with detailed reports and/or presentations.
Education:
- Baccalaureate and post-graduate degrees in Pharmacy are both required.
- Formal training / education in academic detailing is required.
- Formal training / education in one of the following areas is required: leadership, project management, human resources.
- Formal training / education in research methodologies and/or program evaluation is a significant asset.
Licenses: Eligible for licensure with the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals.Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a related field in required.
- Previous experience with academic writing, academic detailing, and critical appraisal are required.
- Previous experience in a leadership role is required.
- Experience managing budgets, applying for grants, research, epidemiology, knowledge translation will be considered valuable assets.
- Experience teaching at an undergraduate or graduate level will be considered valuable assets.
