Through eighteen professional master’s degrees, courses for advancement and graduate school preparation, certificate programs, summer courses, high school programs, and a program for learning English as a second language, the School of Professional Studies transforms knowledge and understanding in service of the greater good.Job DescriptionThe School of Professional Studies program is seeking industry professionals to teach the fall 2025 course Sustainable Technology. These individuals will serve as part-time Lecturers.This course explores the intersection of technology, business, and sustainability, and how leaders can use technology innovation to foster economic and social goals while ensuring environmental protection and a responsible use of resources.Students will analyze and compare different types of sustainable technologies and how they support the shift to circular business models and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in different industry sectors. They will examine different sustainable tech startups and how corporations apply sustainable tech to measure and meet their own sustainability goals. Students will work in teams to provide recommendations for solving a concrete environmental challenge with existing sustainable technology.Note: The course will connect to and be aligned with other related SPS programs, notably Sustainable Management and Sustainability Sciences, to emphasize the role and responsibility of leaders to balance business and sustainability goals with technology innovation.Responsibilities
- Lead in-person class lectures, instructional activities, and classroom discussion
- Evaluate student work and grade assignments
- Monitor student concerns and inquiries and be the first point of contact for student questions
- Hold weekly office hours
- Part‐time Lecturers who are new to SPS must complete Canvas training (online learning management system)

The fall class schedule has yet to be determined.QualificationsColumbia University SPS operates under a scholar-practitioner faculty model, which enables students to learn from faculty that have outstanding academic training as well as a record of accomplishment as practitioners in an applied industry setting.Requirements
- A graduate degree from an accredited institution
- 10+ years of professional experience
- University teaching experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- A master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, Technology Management, or a related discipline.
- Thought leadership as reflected by blogging/writing and public speaking
- Fluency with contemporary discussions and trends related to sustainability and technology.
