Position Description

Location: Kampala, Mercy Corps field office

Position Status: National Intern

 

Mercy Corps responsibilities

For the duration of this internship assignment, the intern will receive:

  • The P&C intern will be able to understand the standardized filing management systems for personnel files.
  • Learn how to create a personnel file and how each document is organized.
  • This exercise will also enhance his or her interpersonal and communication skills since s/he will be coordinating the documents from different team members in all offices to ensure that their files are up to date.
  • This assignment will also enable me to get exposure to the HCM system with support from the People and Culture Assistant.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

  • Strong communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Professionalism: Maintaining a professional demeanour and adhering to ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Organizational skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and stay organized in a fast-paced setting.
  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to team goals.
  • Customer service orientation: Providing excellent service to internal stakeholders such as employees and managers.

INTERN’S RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Updating and maintaining employee records ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
  • Completing and providing support to the P&C team on different assigned activities
  • Participating in P&C meetings

 DELIVERABLES:

  • Updated employee files with accurate information including but not limited to new hires, terminations, resignations, transfers and changes in employee status.
  • Organize files and records that comply with legal requirements and Mercy Corps policies.
  • Accurately complete the assigned tasks as given by the P&C team.
  • Monthly Activity Reports

IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A recommendation letter from the university from the respective university
  • Applicant should be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, Social Sciences or any related discipline in people function.
  • A high degree of organizational skills using computer-based tools/software with demonstrated attention to details.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate frequently and effectively in both verbal and written form.
  • Proven ability to conduct him/ herself professionally under pressure.
