$95,000 – $115,000Our client, a boutique, Vancouver based Real Estate Developer is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their growing business. Reporting to the Principal, the Accounting Manager will hold overall responsibility for the day-to-day accounting functions of the Company. The Accounting Manager will be required to work with different departments, external accountants, and as well as various stakeholders. The role requires a highly organized and reliable individual who can expertly manage various tasks and adapt to changing priorities.Accounting Manager Duties & Responsibilities:Accounting Implementation:
As the current daily accounting functions are being handled by an external firm, a key aspect of this role will be to bring this function in-house. Some specifics related to this include:

  • Work with the external firm to gain an understanding of the various projects, entities, and requirements from an accounting point of view
  • Discuss with Management to determine the future needs and requirements
  • Perform due diligence and research to determine optimal accounting software to suit the Company’s needs and requirements
  • Establish a suitable timeline for implementing the selected accounting software, along with milestones for a full transition to in-house accounting
  • Determine appropriate accounting policies, procedures and guidelines as part of implementation
  • Oversee the full-cycle accounting for multiple real estate development projects in the company’s portfolio
  • Build out an accounting team that suits the Company’s needs and requirements
  • Manage a small team of 1-2 accountants to handle all of the Company’s accounting needs

Accounting and Reporting:

  • Produce job cost reports, and manage monthly budget updates
  • Preparation of construction draws for financing
  • Handle intercompany entries and reconciliations based on required delivery deadlines
  • Process payroll, on an as needed basis
  • Oversee accounts payable/receivable clerk with vendor reconciliations and bank reconciliation duties
  • Review month-end financial statements

Year-End:

  • Correspond with external accountants to prepare annual financial statements for all entities
  • Assist and work with external accountants on tax compliance matters
  • Assist Management with corporate reporting to external stakeholders
  • Handle tax remittances, Worksafe and government document submissions

Development and Accounting:

  • The Company’s accounting will include projects under construction as well as in various stages of development
  • The Company also has a growing portfolio of income producing properties that includes both commercial and residential components, with significant growth in residential anticipated in the coming years

Other Duties:

  • Treasury functions including online banking activity management
  • Cashflow forecasting for both corporate and property levels
  • Provide management with recommendations on best practices and operational processes
  • Assist with financial analysis on real estate projects
  • Perform various accounting/finance ad hoc duties, as required

Accounting Manager Qualifications:You are an experienced professional with a strong background in full-cycle accounting within the real estate development industry. With a process-oriented approach, you are seeking positive challenges within a role that provides autonomy and the ability to collaborative within a team and entrepreneurial setting. With a comprehensive scope of responsibilities, you are not afraid to roll up your sleeves with a “can do” attitude.

  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • 5 + years of experience in an intermediate or senior accounting role within the real estate property and development industry
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite; specifically with MS Excel
  • Hands-on experience working with Yardi Voyager
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Have a meticulous eye for detail and accuracy, and be able to effectively prioritize multiple deliverables and managing various competing deadlines
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and task prioritization skills
  • You are natural problem solver having the ability to identify and understand issues that arise, and resolving them in a timely manner
  • Possess a self-starter approach with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team

Accounting Manager Renumeration:

  • $95,000 – $115,000, Annual Bonus, 3+ weeks paid vacation, comprehensive benefits plan, opportunities to grow as the business grows
