The Opportunity:Avantor is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Supply Chain Apprentice to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. In this apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands-on experience across 4 key business divisions: Procurement, Stores and Laboratory Materials Management, Logistics, and Samples Dispatch. Over the course of 15-18 months, you’ll learn how day-to-day operations function and develop a comprehensive understanding of supply chain management.During the apprenticeship, you’ll work towards earning your Level 3 Supply Chain Leader Qualification. You’ll work full-time, with one day each week dedicated to online learning and completing learning modules (you’ll be on-site, but non-operational on that day).This full-time apprenticeship is based in a brand-new facility at the customer site—The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. You will be part of our Lab and Production Services department, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.What we are looking for
- Education: Minimum of 5 GCSEs or above (including Maths and English)
- Experience: No working experience is required, as full training will be provided
- Skills:
- IT literate, with experience in multiple software packages, especially MS Office
- Ability to understand and follow Health & Safety instructions
- Strong communications skills, with the ability to work in a process-driven environment and an elevated attention to detail
- Interest in Supply Chain and working in a scientific environment
- Excellent collaboration skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
How you will thrive and create an impact
- Procurement: Order and manage consumable items in support of laboratory and production areas for a large pharmaceutical research and development company. Act as a Point of Contact for customers, engaging regularly to understand their business requirements
- Stores and Laboratory Materials Management: Manage scientific consumables, including receipt, handling, storage, and picking, using a stock management IT system. Perform regular stock counts, adjust min/max levels, and manage out-of-stock items
- Logistics: Efficiently receive, process, and sort deliveries according to their internal destinations, ensuring timely delivery of consumables and critical items throughout the building
- Sample Dispatch: Oversee the daily management of consumable materials for Samples Dispatch operations, create and manage shipping documentation, including Air Waybills (AWBs) for non-regulated materials, and monitor and track dispatch request tickets
