The post holder will be responsible for undertaking a mandatory training programme within the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT).Training for the post will be delivered in house, under supervision, and will consist of collecting blood samples by invasive procedures, whilst adhering to protocols. The post holder may also be required to undertake simple diagnostic tests.They will be involved in providing direct and indirect care for patients in the community and supporting registered nurses as appropriate.The post is a very rewarding but demanding role within an ever-changing environment which requires a great deal of patience and initiative providing care for patients in their own homes.There is a commitment to maintaining competencies and engage in continual professional.Main duties of the jobAn awareness of public user involvement in the service we provide.Carrying equipment, lifting, bending and standing for long periods.Walking long distances throughout the hospital, at GP surgeries and during domiciliary visitsPreparing work areasExplaining to patients a number of procedures.Using persuasive skills and reassurance in dealing with those who are needle phobic.Assisting patients to dress and undress if necessaryCollecting blood samples into appropriate containers.Recording details of blood samples taken and, where appropriate, obtaining and recording medical information from patients.Collecting blood samples from patients with varying disabilities, behavioural problems, patients who faint/vomit and dealing with distressed patients in a sensitive manner.Having an awareness of the need to report any concerns regarding a patient’s condition and/or safeguarding.Assisting team leader and supervisor.Supporting new and less experienced colleagues with training.Inter-departmental liaison.Being open and honest and learning from mistakeAbout usWe employ more than 6,500 staffwho deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals,Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, healthcentres and in patients’ homes.
