This role addresses critical environmental health risks, such as air pollution, water quality, and sanitation, by providing technical expertise for designing and implementing targeted interventions. The specialist collaborates across sectors, ensuring that initiatives meet international standards and cater to the specific needs of children in diverse contexts. Through data analysis, advocacy, and capacity-building, the Health Specialist strengthens community and government efforts, contributing to safer, healthier environments that foster children’s well-being and resilience.How can you make a difference?The Health Specialist supports the Healthy Environments for Healthy Children programme (HEHC). Tasks in 2024-2025 entail enhancing UNICEF capacities by strengthening knowledge management through technical briefs and webinars. Tasks will include the following:Main duties and responsibilities: * Support the development of UNICEF’s programming on air pollution and children including identifying potential partners and activities on the 7 deadly sources of air pollution.

  • Support the development of high quality factsheets on the chemicals of concern- mercury, cadmium and arsenic, PAHS, PFAS, Asbestos, triclosan.
  • Support the planning and organization of high-quality webinars on children’s environmental health: air pollution, pesticides, plastics, heavy metals- mercury, lead, arsenic.
  • Support the development of the CEH Collaborative website content on air pollution, pesticides, plastics, heavy metals.

Education:

  • University graduate, master’s student, background on public health, preferably on children’s environmental health, skills on research and systematic reviews, background on environmental policies.

Language:

  • Fluent in at least one UN official language – specifically, English, French, and/or Spanish.
