Our Facilities Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation (FD & ER) team is looking for a Project Manager who would be responsible for the planning, development, and oversight of the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL) Facilities Decommissioning Program Execution. - Ensuring safety in all activities.
- Managing a high-risk portfolio of projects of critical significance, characterized as multi-year in duration and involving a significant financial commitment.
- Managing the collective and individual performance of a large project team (typically around 10 CNL staff) through the establishment of project-related performance objectives and the provision of both formal and informal performance feedback (appraisal), mentoring and guidance to ensure project(s) success.
- Defining roles and responsibilities and managing performance, including discipline, appraisals and merit allocations.
- Providing constructive feedback, including disciplinary action if required or the termination/re-negotiation of external contracts.
- Authorizing project expenditures and procurement requisitions, e.g., purchase orders, invoices and expense claims within limits of authority.
- Managing all aspects of project planning, budgeting and resource allocation through discussions with internal stakeholders to define the project’s scope, deliverables and timing.
- Building and sustaining project teams and setting priorities/clarifying goals.
- Working closely with project teams at CRL
- Managing, coordinating, and administering the decommissioning project from the conceptual stages through planning, engineering, procurement, construction, start-up and project closeout.
- Coordinating with other functional managers (Engineering, Safety & Licensing, Procurement, HSSE, QA) to ensure that functional resource requirements are planned according to Program delivery requirements and that Program-specific aspects of functional resources are implemented.
- Motivating project team staff to deliver quality results on time and within budget and coaching/mentoring others for success.
- Participating in management team meetings related to project performance, priorities, and staffing.
- Securing external and internal resources to execute the project.
- Coordinating with Senior Management and subcontractors.
- Ensuring that applicable Company-wide procedures, operating instructions, and project-specific processes, procedures, and tools are applied to the planning, execution, and control of projects within the Project and that their application is subject to periodic review for compliance and effectiveness.
- Monitoring and reporting the overall progress of projects within the program, conducting reviews to verify outputs are aligned with plans while ensuring that significant variances and trends are investigated.
- Establishing and maintaining a solid and effective Customer relationship.
- Establishing a safe work environment and improving the safety culture in this organization.
- Ensuring all safety management programs are followed for project nuclear safety.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- A degree from an accredited university in a discipline relevant to project management, engineering, business or commerce and an excellent track record for leading large projects to a successful conclusion.
- Experience
- A few years of progressively responsible project experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in a senior or lead project capacity.
- 5-10 years of construction and/or decommissioning relevant experience or equivalent.
- Completion of PMP or AACE certification would be an asset.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Established track record for project delivery and demonstrated leadership, regulatory and company requirements, Operations, Maintenance, Hoisting and Rigging, Construction Management, and Emergency Management.
- Self-motivated and flexible relative to work assignments; possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to interface with peers, other company organizations and Senior Management.
- Extensive knowledge of processes related to strategic planning, human resources, and people management. S/he has strong general management skills, including planning, budgeting, resourcing, time management, negotiation skills, contract management and administration, and progress reporting for an executive audience.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
