The care of patients on the wards, in the theatres and at out-patient clinics as appropriate to the grade of the post and under the direction of the consultants responsible, involving: Operating sessions Attendance at ward rounds and routine ward work Outpatient clinics This whole-time post is based at the West Wing, John Radcliffe Hospital with occasional visits to peripheral outpatient clinics in the region. Specialist Trainees will be expected to contribute to the assessment of junior colleagues. Specialist Trainees will be familiar with the assessment process used in the ISCP. The hospital provides a number of acute, rehabilitation and specialist clinical services, including regional specialities. These include ophthalmology, ENT, plastic and reconstructive surgery and neurosciences (neurology, neurosurgery, neuropathology, neuroradiology), The Oxford Centre of Enablement, which is located on the Nuffield Orthopaedic site, provides services for patients suffering from stroke and head injuries. The hospital has some 290 beds and employs approximately 1,300 staff.The DepartmentInitiated by Sir Hugh Cairns, the Oxford Regional Neurosurgery Unit has developed to offer a fully comprehensive service.Modern theatres, ITU facilities and paediatric beds enable the department to look after both paediatric and adult patient with all types of neurosurgical problems.In addition to intracranial, vascular and tumour surgery, there is expertise in the fields of functional surgery, epilepsy, pituitary surgery and craniofacial surgery. - undertake effectively the role of clinical fellow in Functional neurosurgery in a large teaching hospital.
- Good personal and interpersonal skills Good spoken and written English. Communication skills should be highly developed.
