Do you want to work in an environment where you will be responsible for installing and servicing various plant systems, including safety and security, energy delivery (hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical), communication, and process control systems? Intrigued? We are looking for an Instrument Technician Apprentice! Do you enjoy installing, servicing, measuring, and indicating instruments to monitor processes and equipment? If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!What will you be doing!
- Working from, reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Producing material take-offs and labour estimates from drawings and sketches.
- Initiating service requests and coordinating repairs with customers, other trades, powerhouse, or design staff.
- Troubleshooting and repairing electronic/electrical, pneumatic and microprocessor-based systems and test equipment.
- Scheduling work, ordering materials, specifying new equipment.
- Collaborating with other departments and other roles in the organization and contractors.
- Completing four (4) levels of apprenticeship.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Interest in studying mathematics, science, measurement and control systems, blueprint reading and computer-aided drafting, and industrial processes and instrument control process applications.
- Experience
- Working on electrical and controls for one (1) year or more would be an asset.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Electrical and Electronics knowledge.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- Initiative and judgement to organize and maintain the flow of work and accuracy of records.
- Must be punctual, dependable and safety-minded.
- Detail-oriented and has the ability to meet deadlines.
- Exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize and time management are required.
- The ability to understand detailed information is essential.
- Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one’s work.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.
- Ability to wear and work in a respirator and other protective equipment.
- Some exposure to nuclear radiation and industrial hazards.
- Work in environments that require personal protective equipment and clothing including construction/decommissioning sites, contamination zones and potentially confined spaces.
- Must be able to work in extreme outdoors temperatures ranging from +30°C to -40°C.
- We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day – starting at 6 am.
