GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award.About the role An opportunity has become available to join a team of scientists researching childhood solid cancers with interests in development of new cellular therapeutics. The appointee will work within the team working predominantly on a project to develop an effective CAR-T cell immunotherapy that achieves strong target engagement and enhances CAR-T cell activation and signalling.The appointee will require a PhD and extensive prior experience of T-cell culture and working in pre-GMP development, and must possess technical skills such as molecular cloning of CAR-T cells and viral backbones, cell culture including repeat stimulation assays, and retroviral transduction in primary T cells, PCR and immune assays.Main purpose is summarised as follows:

  • Lab-based research associate in a defined project to improve functionality of CAR-T technology for childhood solid cancer.
  • Lead the UCL component of the Department of Defense Army Medical Research and Development Command project.
  • Working within the Zayed Centre laboratories in a team of scientists with focus on development of new therapies for childhood cancer.
  • Supervise associated Masters and PhD students.

The salary offered is £43,124 – £45,372 per annum. The appointment is for 6 months in the first instance but with expectation of further funding becoming available for extension. The appointee will fall under the overall line management of Professor John Anderson.About you The ideal candidate for this post will hold a PhD in biological sciences, have experience of working in a pre-GMP development, and have previous experience in T cell culture, retroviral transduction in primary T cells, PCR, and immune assays, and molecular cloning of CAR-T and viral backbones.What we offer As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents we also offer some great benefits some of which are below:41 Days holiday (including 27 days annual leave 8 bank holiday and 6 closure days)
