Aplin has partnered with a Calgary-based company to hire a Senior Project Engineer (12 Month Contract).Our client is seeking a Senior Project Engineer with extensive experience as an Electrical Engineer specializing in power systems. This professional will lead the conceptual design phase of a capital project aimed at upgrading key components of a critical infrastructure facility’s power distribution system. The role requires deep technical expertise in the design, implementation, and operation of power systems in facilities operating on a continuous, 24/7 basis.Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a conceptual design for upgrading the facility’s power distribution system, focusing on medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, standby power systems, and power management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and electrical safety practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineering consultants, equipment suppliers, utilities, and internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee the preparation of a conceptual design that serves as a foundation for detailed design and construction packages.
  • Manage project delivery, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse teams, including operations, maintenance, planning, and capital delivery teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and review progress to ensure alignment with project objectives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A strong technical background in power systems with proven expertise in medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, standby power systems, and power management systems.
  • Extensive experience in designing and managing electrical systems for critical infrastructure facilities.
  • Advanced project management skills, with a proven track record of managing complex projects to meet budget, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Deep understanding of industry codes, standards, regulatory compliance, and electrical safety.
  • Ability to effectively manage stakeholder expectations and foster collaboration across teams.

Project Details:

  • This project is in the early initiation phase, focusing on the conceptual design of power distribution system upgrades.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with an engaged engineering consulting firm to deliver a conceptual design report, including phased milestones.
  • The role is anticipated to last up to 12 months and will involve guiding the project to the next stages of design and implementation.
