This post will offer the opportunity to develop your specialist knowledge and skills in both paediatric acute and chronic pain management with the support of the existing friendly and experienced multidisciplinary pain control service.We are looking for a Band 6 or higher paediatric nurse with an interest and experience in acute and chronic pain management. Our multi-disciplinary team provides direct care, clinical advice and support for staff throughout the Trust to facilitate the safe, effective management of patients with acute, complex, procedural and chronic pain. You will participate in both acute and chronic pain service cover. They will be named nurse for a caseload of children and young people with chronic pain conditions, ensuring that the patient experience is of the highest standard at all times, with particular emphasis on the provision of dignified and compassionate care. Education is a key element of the role involving teaching on in-house, local and national study days, as well as degree/MSc postgraduate university pain management modules.The role also involves change managing service developments, developing family focused information, as well as research and audit activities which are fostered by links with the Institute of Child Health.Main duties of the job

• Take responsibility for a defined caseload of children and families, incorporating a care co-ordination remit as agreed.
• Provide effective nursing leadership, expertise, advice and support to a team/department and ensure the provision of high quality care to children and families
• Provide information, clinical advice and support to children and families within a defined caseload and act as a resource to other professionals involved in that child’s care. This will include acting as named nurse for a caseload of children and young people with chronic pain management needs
• Be a highly competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within the specialty ensuring the provision of high-quality evidence-based nursing care for the children and their families
• Provide nursing leadership to develop, deliver and evaluate services
• Support the effective management of patient activity throughout the care pathway with a focus on continuous quality improvement
• Ensure that all staff caring for children in the caseload have up to date clinical skills knowledge and competence
• Foster environments conducive to learning, inquiry, and research and to support the identification of the training and development needs of nursing staff / learners in the department
• Initiate and lead improvement, audit and research studies relating to nursing and multidisciplinary care, within the specialist area of practice, presenting findings through presentations and writing for publication
