If you are looking for exciting and challenging work this Winter, keep reading, and if you meet the requirements of this role, apply today!The Environment and Waste Technologies Branch (E&WT) at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) conducts environmental research in support of the Federal Nuclear Science and Technology program and for the Canadian nuclear industry. This position is for a student to support the Hydrogeomemistry & Low-Level Analysis and Radioecology sections within E&WT. The successful candidate will work in office, laboratory and field environments. The student will be working on research and development projects to investigate radionuclide transport in the environment. The projects build on the long history of environmental experiments conducted at the Chalk River site, and the student will work with a variety of S&T staff with expertise in both radioecology and hydrogeochemistry.Please submit a resume, cover letter, and copy of an up-to-date transcript by the posting close date of January 5th at 11:59 pm EST to ensure consideration for student employment. Year of study: All years of studyWhat you will be doing:

  • Working with a multi-disciplinary group of scientists to support ongoing research and development.
  • Conducting on-site fieldwork (e.g., experimental garden plots, monitoring water levels and geochemical field parameters).
  • Conducting laboratory work to analyze environmental media for relevant radionuclides.
  • Performing data entry and analysis.
  • Assisting in the preparation of written documents.
  • Other duties as required.

What we are looking for:

  • Education /Experience
  • Currently enrolled and attending a Earth Science, Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Technology, Ecology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeochemistry, Environmental Engineering related program.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of one or more of: hydrogeology, ecology, chemistry, plant biology, soil science.
  • Ability to perform physical work in an outdoor setting, including working in boats.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
