The Role
We are looking to recruit a Senior Knit Technician to deliver a student-centred culture within the faculty’s workshops and to underpin the collective aims of the faculty, through the ethos of ‘Thinking through Making’, so that there is a clear understanding of how meaningful and disciplined workshop practice can effectively support the development of ambitious student work.Key responsibilities of the role will include…
- Assisting and liaising with technical and academic colleagues regarding the planning, development and management of technical support and resources in line with the faculty’s Strategy and Academic Plan.
- To be able to use domestic and Dubied machines to produce garments to a high standard, to enable student projects using a wide range of and yarns.
- To have a knowledge of Shima Seiki Knit machinery, including digital software Apex 4 and equivalent program.
- To ensure the safe operation of all processes within the faculty’s workshops and support the University’s Health and Safety Policy.
The Person
We are looking for someone with:
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple priorities, including general maintenance and cleaning of machinery & booking systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working closely with other technicians.
- Patience in supporting students and collaborating on projects with Academic/Teaching colleagues.
- Discipline in engaging and inspiring students to explore various techniques and processes with yarns and on Domestic Dubied knit machines.
- A proactive student-centred approach to workshop management.
Further Information
