Summary of Duties:Under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner Manager, the incumbent is a Trade Commissioner responsible for responding to Canadian Trade Commissioner Service client requests.The incumbent will also be responsible for proposing, planning and leading on trade and innovation initiatives, in consultation with the trade team and management in the areas of Science, Technology and Innovation including the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sectors. Responsibilities for other sectors or thematic areas may also constitute the job package.The incumbent is responsible for developing an export strategy to promote Canadian products and services, offer access to research, technology and venture capital business opportunities for Canadian companies and institutions, developing an effective network of Canadian and local partners to support program objectives; providing timely and relevant advice to Canadian clients and partners; undertaking research into local business trends; planning activities and initiatives to support export, investment and innovation strategies; and planning and/or offering support for high-level visits.Area of Selection:This selection process is open to all applicants legally residing in the United States at the time of appointment.   • A college or university degree in a discipline related to the position, such as Business Administration, International Trade, Commerce, Finance or Marketing,

or

  • A combination of education and experience relevant to the position.

Language:

  • An advanced proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension and speaking) in English.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years recent* experience in a government, institutional, corporate and/or NGO context,
  • Recent* experience responding to client requests (internal and/or external) using a variety of digital tools,
  • Working with commercial, financial, or government clients in international trade and/or investment promotion,
  • Planning and delivering programs with minimal supervision in at least one of the following: B2B client meetings; roundtable/seminars; trade shows; trade delegations; high-profile visits,

Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.Knowledge:

Asset Qualifications:Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Recent experience in project implementation (including planning, execution, tracking/reporting results and budget management),
  • Experience working at a Canadian Mission outside the United States,
  • Experience working on projects promoting Canadian innovation in the life-sciences or subsectors (i.e. medical devices, software, etc.),
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate in French.

*Recent experience is defined as within the last 5 years.Operational Requirements:

  • Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with the Locally Engaged Staff (LES) regulations of 37.50 hours per week.
  • Occasional overtime, including evenings and weekends, may be required with advance notice.
  • Occasional travel may be required, with advanced notice.
