We are a not-for-profit organisation working with Financial Services providers to improve the financial wellbeing of people in vulnerable circumstances by increasing access to fair, affordable and appropriate financial products and services.We are continuing our work following our latest round of funding, and as a result we are now seeking a General Counsel on a part-time basis.As our General Counsel you will lead our high-impact work, including groundbreaking financial transactions, and will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with credit, regulatory, and subsidy laws, enabling us to make the most of public funding. You will also work on exciting deals that require golden share agreements, profit-sharing models, and innovative approaches to recycling funds for maximum impact.Key ResponsibilitiesLegal Oversight: Lead our legal function, ensuring compliance across investments, regulatory matters, and public funding agreements.Transaction Leadership: Oversee complex investment structures and provide strategic advice on novel arrangements.Regulatory Expertise: Act as a key advisor on subsidy compliance, procurement law, and credit-related regulations.Strategic Guidance: Shape the commercial approach to deals and support the organisation’s leadership with expert legal advice.Essential experience:A strong background in managing and structuring complex financial transactions, including special purpose vehicles (SPVs), guarantees, and profit-sharing agreements. Experience with innovative or novel financial arrangements is highly desirable.A deep understanding of UK regulatory frameworks, particularly those related to credit law, public sector compliance, and subsidy control. You’ll be comfortable advising on compliance at the design stage of major deals.The ability to shape and drive the organisation’s legal strategy, ensuring alignment with broader organisational goals. You’ll be adept at balancing the big picture with meticulous attention to detail.A track record of working on deals that go beyond legalities, focusing on commercial viability and impact-led outcomes. You’ll have the skills to navigate complex commercial challenges with a solutions-focused mindset.The capability to act as a trusted advisor to the leadership team, providing expert guidance and influencing decisions at the highest level. Experience in managing relationships with external legal counsel is essential.The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where priorities can shift.
