- Ensuring that QC inspections, surveillances, and monitoring are safely planned and completed in a timely manner to meet client expectations.
- Leading and carrying out Quality Control Inspections, non-destructive examinations, and surveillances within the scope of work defined by requirements, CNL business, CTA mission, and specifically the Quality Program.
- Maintaining inspection shops, ensuring equipment functionality, and promoting safe working procedures and practices while monitoring their use in the field.
- Providing and verifying technically accurate professional inspection reports and quality records, reviewing, approving, and accepting them.
- Inspection Records management and Quality Reporting
- Managing inspection records and quality reporting by preparing, reviewing, approving, or accepting records of inspection/surveillance and non-conformance, ensuring inspector records consistency.
- Generating work activity reports to management.
- Leading and participating in audit activities on behalf of the Quality Control Inspection Team, representing the Quality Organization.
- Creating, modifying, or upgrading inspection procedures and related work control documentation using Microsoft suite of tools.
- Personnel Development and Performance Management– Quality Control Inspector Team
- Participating in and maintaining up-to-date all required CNL safety and operational training, supporting the maintenance of required training for Quality Control Inspectors.
- Working with Quality Management, taking the lead in providing input on strategic and tactical planned training and professional development for self and Quality Control Inspectors, and implementing the necessary training plans and qualification activities.
- Assuming personal responsibility and accountability for maintaining skills, participating in self-study, awareness, and ongoing training to maintain and elevate qualifications in inspection disciplines.
- Providing technical supervision, assisting senior specialists through regular inspector coaching, mentoring, and developing skills and expertise to support work performance.
- Program Monitoring and Process Improvements
- Adhering to Workplace Safety and Health procedures, the WHIMIS program, and housekeeping practices, keeping current with practices, working in a prudent and safe manner, and informing other employees if they are using unsafe work practices or equipment.
- Assisting management in implementing the CNL Quality Program through independent oversight.
- Supporting and practicing fiscal responsibility and budget alignment.
- Providing input for new and potential improvements to inspection methods, tools, equipment, and services.
- Assisting the organization in quality audit and surveillance activities, including performing inspections/surveillances at vendor premises when required.
- Carrying out other quality divisional support duties as assigned by management.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Graduate from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education and normally has more than twelve (12) years of pertinent and progressive technological experience, OR
- Secondary School Honour Graduation and normally has more than fifteen (15) years of pertinent and progressive experience. Or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
- Experience
- Pertinent and progressive technological experience demonstrated in a Quality Control position as part of a Quality Assurance Organization with the responsibility for independent oversight.
- Experience with audits, witnessing code activities, participating in surveillance, and developing and implementing inspection-specific procedures.
- Successful Candidates will have:
- Minimum Canadian Welding Bureau CWB CSA W178.1 Level 2 welding certification.
- Minimum of (2*) Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) registered Level 2 CAN/CGSB-48.9712 non-destructive examination (NDE) certifications (i.e. Radiography, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic, Leak Testing) OR
- Combination of (1) CGSB Level 2 NDE certification with 2 or more American Society for NonDestructive testing qualifications held for 5 years or more.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working within a high-performance group of Quality Control Inspectors of varying knowledge and experience, the incumbent should possess and be able to demonstrate the following capabilities:
- Demonstrate ability in a specialized Inspection field as well as a good general understanding of other fields.
- Demonstrate technical innovation and application of ‘state-of the art’ knowledge.
- Demonstrate ability to make a substantial contribution to the work of CNL.
- Demonstrate sound judgment, possesses a keen sense of responsibility, and is reliable and thorough in carrying out duties.
- Purchase, safely use and maintain QC owned or operated facilities, shops, tools and equipment.
- Plan, organize, coordinate regular or complex inspections based on customer inputs.
- Ensure the creation of high-quality inspection records and reports.
- Demonstrate excellent (quality program) judgement.
- Must be proficient in reading and interpreting drawings/blueprints, engineering specifications, test and calibration reports and applying acceptance criteria to inspection methods, tools, equipment.
- Must be skilled in the use, care and proper maintenance of inspection tools and techniques.
- Exceptional organizational skills, able to prioritize and time management is required.
- Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Highly motivated, responsible, and accountable to work with minimal supervision; and must be punctual, dependable and safety minded.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
- The incumbent is required to maintain a Level 2 (secret) security clearance.
- Wear and work in proper protective clothing.
- Obtain and maintain a Level 2 (secret) security clearance.
- Valid class G driver’s license is required.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Visual concentration and acuity are required in addition to completing regular required optical examinations to maintain qualifications and certifications;
- Must possess physical agility and mental aptitude necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility, decision-making, applying processes and procedures;
- Must be capable of donning, doffing, wearing and working in a respirator and industrial protective clothing (PPE) and safely using equipment as required.
