Mission and objectives
UNICEF SWZ organization mission TBD
Context
Online community engagement is a powerful avenue to involve youth. Apart from social media channels, the UNICEF Country Office in Eswatini uses two main platforms to engage young people in the country, by raising awareness and collecting young people’s views about issues that impact them, and sharing resources and information. These platforms are U-Report, and the Internet of Good Things (IoGT). U-Report is a digital community and messaging tool developed by UNICEF that allows young people to share their opinions on issues that affect them, take action to create change, influence decision-makers, raise their voices, and find out about issues that affect them. U-Report uses SMS polls and alerts to collect real-time responses from participants. The responses are then analyzed in real-time, mapped, displayed on a public dashboard, used to inform development work and humanitarian response, and shared back to U-Reporters to improve awareness and continuous engagement. More information about U-Report in Eswatini can be found here: https://eswatini.ureport.in/. The Country Office will soon open the U-Report WhatsApp channel. The internet of Good Things is a UNICEF-led initiative that aims to bridge the digital divide and build knowledge in societies. The Internet of good things hosts mobile-packaged content designed to make lifesaving and life-improving information available for free, even on low-end devices. More information about the IoGT in Eswatini can be found here: https://sz.goodinternet.org/en/. In 2025, UNICEF Eswatini also plans to launch Fundoo, a digital life coach equipping young people with 21st century and employability skills and preparing them for their future. More information can be found here: https://www.unicef.org/innovation/fundoo. As the Country Offices embarks on the development of its new country programme, which will guide UNICEF’s efforts in the country for the next five years, it is critical to ensure that the ongoing online youth engagement efforts, and others which may be rolled out in 2025, are promoted effectively to increase the reach and quality of the services provided through these platforms.
