We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway To learn more, please to watch our video.This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.SCO keeps the materials, machinery and components required by its customers moving – making sure they are on-site when needed so work can go ahead as planned and on schedule.Brief DescriptionSupply Chain Operations (SCO) has big aspirations for the next five years. Our investments will be centred on our underlying principle of matching Network Rail’s capability and capacity to our customers’ demand.The ways in which people and businesses use the railway are changing all the time. SCO’s activities will play a huge role in meeting these shifting demands and expectations, with spending in some areas to allow us to adapt, where appropriate, to make sure our services continue to deliver value for money.Some of our spending will be linked to national programmes that span Network Rail as a whole and are delivered under SCO because of our reach across the organisation -as well as delivering projects specific to SCO.
- £440 million investment in our rail fleet and depots, including replacement of our Stoneblowers and Rail Delivery Trains, vehicle overhaul and delivering upgrades to our depots throughout the UK.
- Transform the way we monitor our infrastructure – NR operates around 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts, plus thousands of signals, level crossings and stations
- Delivering Traction Power Centralised Management System (TPCM)s/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) programme
- Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) programme and
- Developing and delivering NR’s commitment to Electric Vehicle roll out and charging infrastructure.
In this role you will be working closely with the Supply Chain Operations Director to lead business transformation programmes which will enables Supply Chain Operations to successfully support each of Network Rail’s routes and regions.You will have broad experience working in strategic change programmes with substantial budget spend and be able to operate commercially and lead your team to successful outcomes. You will be able to demonstrate your commercial and financial expertise and have great communication skills at all levels. You will have extensive senior stakeholder engagement skills and you will have proven experience of delivery in year whilst strategically planning for future year spend and delivery.Above all you will be able to demonstrate credibility and building effective partnerships, by influencing stakeholders, commercial partners and suppliers and internal customers as needed.About the role (External)Key Accountabilities1. Own the programme vision and maintain the alignment to Network Rail’s strategic direction.2. Direct and lead the delivery and implementation of the programme, taking personal accountability for its outcome(s) and the realisation of their associated benefits.3. Manage the programme’s governance arrangements according to appropriate requirements and quality.4. Lead the interface with senior stakeholders and deliver effective interfaces and communications to all stakeholders.5. Identify and manage the key strategic risks facing the programme.6. Develop and implement the business change strategy and approach for the Route Services Directorate (RSD) operational business, successfully delivering the operational readiness for RSD programmes and guiding the function and its staff through the process of change.7. Commission and chair reviews both during the programme and following programme closure that formally assess the programme’s continued alignment with its objectives, capability of delivery and measurable achievement of benefits.8. Manage and support the Programme and Project Managers.Job Skills, Experience and QualificationsEssential· Extensive experience in a senior management role· Experience of delivering strategic change programmes covering a budget of over £50m· Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills· Sufficient seniority and credibility to advise programme and project managers on their projects in relation to the programme· Demonstrable knowledge of programme and project management approaches· Strong commercial focus and financially astute· Educated to degree levelDesirable· Formal Programme Management qualification (e.g. Managing Successful Programmes Practitioner)· Knowledge of the rail industryHow to apply (External)Vacancy type: This role is permanent.Location: This position can be based in any NR office location.Hours: up to 35 hours per week with hybrid working and travel as required.
