Details:Mission and objectives:UN DPO is looking for four online volunteers (one per each language) to support with translation of the Policy (approximately 10,600 words) into Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Russian and Spanish.Context:UN Department of Peace Operations (DPO) has recently adopted the Policy on Information Integrity in Peacekeeping Settings, setting out the approach, principles, roles, responsibilities and processes for strengthening information integrity and addressing misinformation, disinformation and hate speech in peacekeeping operations. The English text of the Policy requires translation into other official UN languages.Task type:Translation and InterpretationTask description:UN DPO is looking for four online volunteers (one per each language) to support with translation of the Policy (approximately 10,600 words) into Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Russian and Spanish. The Online Volunteers must ensure the translation is precise. The selected online volunteers will receive guidance as needed and could be asked to participate in MS Teams meetings in ET time zone (no more than an hour per week).The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with the document in the original language and will receive guidance on the target audience and our communications guidelines as well as other guidance as needed.The Online Volunteers will have the opportunity to build connections with the Information Integrity Unit at DPO and learn about the ways in which the translated product contributes to the team’s overall objective of addressing harmful information in peacekeeping settings.Requirements:Candidates should be native speakers of Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Russian or Spanish. University degree in languages, translation, linguistics, communications, journalism, international relations, peace studies or a similar field is required. Certification in translation is highly desirable.Fluency in English, previous translation experience, excellent translation skills, knowledge of MS Office, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines are also required.Experience with translating UN documents and following UN editorial guidelines is highly preferred. Familiarity with UN and peacekeeping terminology is preferred.Work Hours: 16-20
