Background:
Sahara Economic Development Organization (SEDO) is an Iraqi National NGO, it’s established in November 2007 as an independent NGO with its main office in Tikrit city. It focuses on developing the economic sector by providing business management training courses and counseling services to entrepreneurs and potential investors to enable them to efficiently contribute to the local economy. SEDO is considered among the most effective and qualified organizations in Iraq. It has conducted economic studies on the business environment in Iraq, identifying business opportunities and market niches for potential investors in Iraq. SEDO started humanitarian intervention in Iraq to respond to the urgent need for our beneficiaries, it’s works in WASH, Livelihood, protection, Food security, and Education sectors.
CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Child Protection and Child Rights Governance (CPCRG) Coordiantor works under the management of the DAIDA Project , in close coordination with partners to ensure effective, efficient and cost-sensitive operations of the “DANIDA funded Program” in the assigned geographical locations. The officer will assist to ensure that SEDO activities are consistent with SEDO and Members’ programming principles and approaches, draw on good practices and lessons learned, enable children to attain their rights and are compliant with donor regulations.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support of Child Welfare Authority in Baghdad to review their Child protection system and develop it.
- Provide Capacity building for Support of the Child Welfare Authority staff about the principles and advanced topics on CPCRG
- Represent SEDO in tasks coordination, discussion, and forming a Child Protection Working Group (CPWG) in Iraq in coordination and lead by with Child Welfare Authority and co-charing by SEDO to coordinate the child protection activities among actors.
- Prepare SoP for the new Child Protection Working Group (CPWG) and share it with the actors to review and receive their feedback
- Organizing the regular meetings of CPWG, recording the meeting notes, and sharing them with the actors.
- Lead efforts to advocate for comprehensive child law reform, with a focus on sensitive issues such as child marriage, inclusion of other nationalities, and children lacking legal documentation.
- Work with members of the Iraqi Parliament to build their understanding and ownership of child law, fostering a shift in mindset toward increased support for reform.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including government officials, civil society representatives, and influential figures, to garner support for child law reform.
- Provide technical support for the implementation and application of SEDO’s CRG common approaches, ensuring high-quality implementation.
- Establish an effective monitoring and evaluation framework, conducting regular field visits to project sites for technical assistance, monitoring, and follow-up.
- Assist in budget preparation, phasing, and forecasting, ensuring adherence to SEDO and donor finance and procurement policies and procedures.
- Support Program Managers and partner counterparts, in the overall management of child rights governance and nexus implementation in line with program objectives.
- Assist Project Managers in preparing budget phasing and monthly forecasts, ensuring compliance with approved annual budgets for SEDO-managed budgets and sub-grants.
- Ensure that SEDO and donor finance and procurement policies and procedures are strictly followed by project staff and implementing partners.
- Represent SEDO’s CRG Program in relevant forums and theme groups locally and within SEDO.
- Collaborate with the Advocacy Manager and Communication Officer to increase and maintain the visibility of SEDO in the CRG sector.
- Support partners and program managers in establishing and maintaining networks with governmental entities working on CRG themes, fostering synergy and alliances for advocacy initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MOLSA) to ensure that SEDO’s CRG program aligns with government priorities and receives full support.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Qualifications and Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in child protection and/or child rights governance, advocacy, or related fields.

Bachelor’s degree in social work, law, human rights, humanitiesstudies or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.

Strong understanding of international child rights standards and legal frameworks.

Proven experience in project management, including planning, implementation, and monitoring.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Strong analytical and research skills.

Fluency in Arabic and English; knowledge of Kurdish is a plus.
