Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Indigenous Relations.Reporting to the the Director Indigenous Partnerships, this position is responsible for for the development and execution of an Indigenous Engagement strategy in support of project objectives, ensures integration with projects, and delivers educational materials; OPG’s Indigenous Relations Policy and related governance. The Senior Manager, Indigenous Relations will lead the integration of Indigenous Perspectives into OPG policies and ensure accountabilities exist to meet any Indigenous Consultation obligations OPG may have.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Review, revise, and develop key policies on Indigenous Relations, inclusions, and integration of the Duty to Consult and Accommodate into OPG processes.
- Meet with government officials at the local, provincial and federal level, industry and Indigenous Nations and associations;
- Apply judgment, discretion and initiative in managing sensitive issues involving Indigenous communities and their citizens, including Aboriginal and treaty rights, and negotiating outcomes that strike the appropriate balance between the interests of OPG and the respective community;
- Ensure organization wide consistency of drafted consultation plans necessary to influence and secure regulatory and government approvals;
- Develop educational materials to support ongoing internal learning at OPG to ensure organizational readiness to engage and partner with Indigenous Nations and communities;
- Provide data, analysis and reports for corporate purposes including executive decision making, as required.
- Support the regularized reporting and updates to OPG’s Reconciliation Action Plan and manage OPG’s Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Partnerships program.
- Coordinate and implement internal awareness campaigns related to days of significance, such as National Indigenous Peoples Day and the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Juris Doctor or Bachelors of Law, Public Policy, Engineering, Finance, Indigenous Studies or Business
- Specific academic focus on Indigenous Studies is considered an asset
- Minimum 4+ years of progressive experience as a strategic project leader, who has demonstrated experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of policy development.
- Expertise in the Duty to Consult and Accommodate, including an understand of the Constitution and the jurisprudence.
- Extensive experience in development or assessment of complex proposals with negotiation, interpretation, and administration of complex agreements and contracts.
- Developed experience in contract development, contract management, budgeting, staffing, and scheduling
- Must possess a high level of integrity and personal accountability with a focus on engaging employees to perform at their best, while promoting the development of the team.
