Job IntroductionThe Area Manager will be part of the Library team providing support to Customer Support Assistants within libraries. Working with the other 4 Area Managers they will work together within the district to also work with partners, provide a library service to customers, train and support staff.Role DescriptionThis is a rare and exciting opportunity to be an Area Manager within Bradford Libraries and be part of the operations management team. To manage the delivery of effective and efficient customer-focused and inclusive library services across the Shipley Area through Council run libraries in Keighley/Ilkley cluster. Manage and deliver the effective recruitment, training, management, development and deployment of Customer Support Assistants, other staff and volunteers across the Area, resulting in a service that meets high standards of quality and customer satisfaction. To provide regular and appropriate communication, advice, and training to those responsible for running community managed libraries in the Area, ( Addingham, Silsden, Menston and Burley) Ensuring that they are well supported and able to deliver the best service possible. Working closely with other Area Managers to share information, jointly plan, support and cover for each other as necessary, reporting to the District Libraries Manager.Hours will be rota’d to be cover for the library service in conjunction with other Area Managers, with some flexibility especially if required to attend evening/weekend meetings. Which could mean cover between 8.45 a.m. and 7 p.m. including Saturday and Sunday.The posts duties include:
- Manage the delivery of effective and efficient customer focused and inclusive library service.
- Line manage Customer Service Assistants.
- Manage, train and support library staff, arranging 1-1 meetings and site meetings.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with volunteers in community managed libraries.
- Arrange bookings and payments for meeting room and exhibitions.
- Work with partner services and organisations in the Area as appropriate.
Candidates should have previous experience of working in a customer facing environment, be well organised and have a good level of literacy and numeracy, be confident with IT, have good communication skills, and enjoy working with people, books and information. Significant experience of delivering public library services at a senior Customer Service Assistant level, or of management in a similar context, including supervising others.
