Sustainable Peace Foundation (SPF) is an Iraqi feminist Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) striving to build and sustain positive peace through vertical and horizontal approaches and participatory methods; addressing root causes of tensions and conflicts challenging positive peace in Iraq. SPF strives to achieve this by working on the grassroots level to reinstate and strengthen the lost trust between Iraq’s diverse ethno-religious communities; increase community resilience, empower and building the capacities of the very effected communities so they can mitigate and transform conflicts through dialogue and non-violent means.
SPF strives to achieve these objectives by working with vulnerable groups such as, youth, women and girls, people with special needs and IDPs through developing their capacities to take leadership roles and to actively participate in the peace and reconciliation processes; economically empower communities by offering them vocational trainings and providing them with livelihood means to ensure stability and a dignified living standard.
SPF also strives to engage local authority and security actors with the local communities through advocacy, round table dialogue sessions and developing local peace mechanisms and structures capable to acts as soundboards conveying their communities’ needs and challenges.
SPF also provides consultations for local and international NGOs on peacebuilding and social cohesion programming, such as: context analysis, needs assessments, actor and service mapping etc.
SPF’s focuses on minority protection, but through its Do-no-Harm approach, which ensures that SPF programming and implementation creates cohesion instead of doing harm.
Project Description
This project focuses on empowering women and girls in Iraq to play pivotal roles in conflict prevention and peacebuilding by addressing the complex interplay of climate change, conflict, and gender inequality. Targeting communities in Basra and Nineveh, the project aims to build the capacity of women and girls through training in mediation, advocacy, and leadership, establishing community-based early warning systems, and promoting women-led advocacy campaigns. It also integrates economic empowerment with peacebuilding to enhance the resilience and inclusion of vulnerable populations.
Job Description
The Sustainable Peace Foundation (SPF) is seeking a dedicated and proactive Field Coordinator to oversee and implement activities for a transformative initiative in Basra. This project empowers women and girls as agents of conflict prevention and peacebuilding by addressing the intersection of climate change, gender inequality, and conflict. The Field Coordinator will serve as the key point of contact between SPF and local communities, ensuring seamless implementation of project activities.
This position is contingent upon the successful signing of a contract with the project’s donor.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement
– Build and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, including women’s CSOs, tribal leaders, and local authorities.
– Foster community participation and ownership in all project activities, promoting inclusivity and gender equality.
Project Implementation
– Coordinate the execution of capacity-building workshops, women-led advocacy campaigns, and economic empowerment initiatives in targeted areas.
– Support the establishment of community-based early warning systems for conflict prevention.
– Ensure timely delivery of project outputs as outlined in the work plan.
Monitoring and Reporting
– Collect and document field data, including activity attendance, feedback, and outcomes.
– Submit regular progress reports to the Programme Manager, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
– Conduct pre- and post-activity assessments to measure project impact.
Logistical Support
– Coordinate logistics for training sessions, workshops, and advocacy campaigns, including venue setup, materials, and transportation.
– Ensure efficient use of project resources and compliance with SPF’s operational guidelines.
Conflict Sensitivity
– Monitor local tensions and conflicts, providing regular updates to inform project activities.
– Promote the “Do No Harm” principle in all project interventions, ensuring cultural and conflict sensitivity.
Terms of Reference
The Field Coordinator will serve as SPF’s representative in Nineveh, ensuring the effective delivery of project activities. Specific responsibilities include:
Stakeholder Liaison
– Act as the primary liaison between SPF, local communities, and project beneficiaries.
– Engage regularly with local women’s groups and other community stakeholders to facilitate project alignment with local needs.
Capacity Building
– Coordinate and support workshops aimed at training women mediators in conflict resolution, mediation, and leadership skills.
– Assist in the implementation of economic empowerment initiatives to enhance women’s resilience and self-reliance.
Advocacy and Awareness
– Support the implementation of women-led advocacy campaigns addressing climate-induced conflicts.
– Promote community awareness of the importance of women’s participation in peacebuilding.
Early Warning Systems
– Help design and establish early warning systems to identify and mitigate local conflicts, particularly those driven by climate change.
– Train community members, especially women, to actively participate in these systems.
Monitoring and Evaluation
– Conduct field monitoring to ensure alignment with project objectives.
– Maintain accurate records of activities and beneficiaries for reporting and evaluation purposes.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Essential Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
– Minimum 3 years of field coordination experience in humanitarian or development projects, preferably in conflict-affected settings.
Technical Skills
– Knowledge of gender-sensitive conflict prevention and peacebuilding approaches.
– Experience in community engagement, capacity building, and advocacy.
– Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
Soft Skills
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse cultural contexts.
– Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
– Commitment to promoting inclusivity and gender equality in all activities.
Language Proficiency:
Fluency in Arabic is required; knowledge of English and Kurdish is an advantage.
