We are looking for an experienced data specialist to develop and maintain analytical solutions within the Financial Markets Department as a member of the Financial Markets Data Analytics (FMDA) division. The FMDA team provides expertise in data modelling, advanced analytics and data science to accelerate and enhance the department’s use of data-driven intelligence in its policy, research and market operations.We leverage a large number of datasets from commercial data providers and regulatory agencies, and a substantial amount of internally generated data from our own operations. We automate data pipelines, transform and curate data, build statistical and machine learning models, create and maintain dashboards, and more. We are user-oriented and focused, striving to improve ways of working with data and business intelligence. Our products are developed, operated, and maintained using agile principles and involve close cooperation with financial market specialists and partners in the Bank’s Information Technology (ITS) and Information, Data and Analytics Services (IDAS) departments.As a Data and Analytics Specialist, you will:

  • develop, deliver and maintain our data models and other related data pipeline functionalities using reusable, scalable methodologies, processes, templates, and modules
  • work with economists, financial sector specialists and other data experts to perform data quality assurance work, build and automate financial models and create compelling visualizations (including dashboards)
  • prepare detailed documentation to outline data sources, models and algorithms used and developed
  • work closely with partners in IDAS and ITS to support our internal clients and implement best practices for solution development and data modelling
  • be aware of industry best practices and help share knowledge with other specialists in support functions
  • engage in agile team ceremonies and uphold agile practices

Please note, this poster will also be used to fill a 1-year term position.What you need to succeedYou have experience:

  • with data and analytical solution development, and you have worked with at least one SQL database format
  • developing technical workflows that incorporate automation and produce easily consumable results
  • creating compelling visualizations, dashboards, presentations and reports

Additionally:

  • You have good quantitative skills, are strong in at least one statistical/analytic software (e.g., Python, R, Matlab etc.), and understand good coding and DevOps principles,
  • You have experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud computing services, Databricks, PySpark and Fabric/Power BI
  • Your are comfortable with reproducible technology tools and version control (e.g. GitHub)
  • You are a team player who is comfortable with an agile work environment, contributes to discussions and are optimistic when dealing with changes and conflicts.
  • You are able to solicit cooperation from colleagues, describe your work to a non-technical audience, and are able to set priorities in your development work.

Asset:

  • Previous experience working in the financial industry with markets data is a major asset

Your education and experience

  • This positions requires a graduate university degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance or economics and at least 2 years of relevant experience developing data and analytical workflows using statistical packages
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages – English and French. The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional).   • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $92,346 to $108,643 (job grade 16)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (3%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
