Team StructureBD team – The BD & marketing team is responsible for practice group and sector BD, client development, brand and online marketing, and communications and PR. This role reports into the Head of Client Development.Main ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking an experienced Strategic Bids Manager for a newly created role at Stephenson Harwood. It is an exciting and rare opportunity for someone to establish and shape a central bids function.
The role will include:
- Delivery of high-quality and impactful strategic and ‘must-win’ bids and proposals, working closely with the wider international business development team.
- Collaboration with all of teams involved in delivering bids (including lawyers, pricing, innovation, risk and responsible business teams), ensuring client-focused solutions that are tailored for a successful outcome.
- Coaching and preparing bid teams for meetings and presentations.
- Developing and maintaining a suite of best practice materials, including standard text and graphics, processes and guidance for use across the firm.
- Driving bid feedback across the firm, both collecting and sharing client insights.
- Analysing and sharing themes on outcomes and areas for improvement.
- Helping to identify inefficiencies in the pitch process and developing plans to address these.
- Developing and driving our use of GenAI and other marketing technology to deliver bids.

- Experience of bids and bidding in a professional services environment is essential, with experience of managing multiple cross-practice/ cross-office responses.
- Able to influence senior stakeholders and provide strategic advice whilst at the same time being willing to draft and deliver bids.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines with excellent project management skills.
- A skilled written communicator with unrivalled attention to detail.
- Well organised and someone who delivers what they promise to a consistently high standard of quality.
- Confident, resilient and pragmatic.
- A supportive and committed team player able to demonstrate experience of building a collaborative environment.
- Innovative and open to new ideas, with the ability to challenge where necessary.
- Commercially aware and knowledgeable and able to demonstrate consistent contribution of value to pursuit opportunities.
