The Enteric and Respiratory Infections Program within the Infectious Diseases Division conducts research in collaboration with the Virology Laboratory and Genome Centre, focusing on genomic surveillance of viruses such as Influenza, RSV, SARS-CoV-2, Norovirus, Rotavirus, and Adenovirus, as well as bacteria. To achieve its objectives, icddr,b is actively engaged in detecting and controlling emerging and re-emerging respiratory and enteric infections through partnerships with relevant national and international collaborators and stakeholders.
The Senior Research Investigator will report to the Senior Scientist and will be responsible for designing and executing research projects, managing research teams, ensuring the collection of high-quality data while upholding ethical standards, and organizing training sessions for research teams on standard operating procedures. Additionally, the role involves enhancing team capacity for conducting population-based research and coordinating research studies in collaboration with government and non-government national and international partners, all in adherence to the research protocol and the organization’s values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in –
- Develop research proposals, protocols and prepare comprehensive reports, as well as conduct peer reviews of manuscripts to support scientific writing and publication.
- Mentor junior researchers on laboratory techniques, research design, and scientific writing.
- Perform rigorous scientific analyses, identify knowledge gaps, and derive meaningful conclusions.
- Design detailed project plans, including milestones and deliverables.
- Assess financial and non-financial resource needs based on research methodologies.
- Train personnel on data collection methods, and supervise and monitor field activities.
- Develop SOPs, tools and metrics for research projects.
- Prepare and implement detailed work plans to achieve study objectives.
- Facilitate Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals for various research projects.
- Organize and lead training sessions and workshops.
- Present research findings at different forums to disseminate knowledge.
- Train junior researchers on the safe handling of infectious biological agents, the proper handling of chemical reagents, and the disposal of biohazardous materials to ensure good laboratory practices and maintain a safe working environment.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s in Biological Sciences with a strong academic track record is required.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in relevant fields, showcasing subject matter expertise, advanced research capabilities and practical knowledge with publications.
- Preference will be given to candidates holding a PhD in a related discipline,
- Strong interpersonal and excellent communication and writing skills in English and Bangla.
