Job Title: Principal Fire Engineer
Location: LondonPurpose:
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Fire Engineer to deliver top-tier services across various fire engineering sectors. You will work closely with clients, managing projects from initiation through to successful completion. You will also mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of fire safety strategies and solutions. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with the Director of Fire Engineering to make strategic decisions for the business unit.Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver expert fire engineering services across diverse projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes
- Develop fire safety strategies, detailed technical reports, and project-specific analyses for buildings and infrastructure
- Provide on-site advisory support during the construction phase
- Conduct assessments of external wall systems and other fire-related evaluations
- Perform advanced technical analyses such as CFD, evacuation modelling, and structural fire engineering using tools like FDS/PyroSim and Pathfinder
- Participate in third-party reviews and verification of designs
- Stay well-versed in fire safety legislation, including Approved Document B, BS 9999, BS 9991, and BS 7974.
- Identify business development opportunities and actively engage with potential clients to prepare proposals
- Oversee project timelines and invoicing, ensuring successful project delivery
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, mentors, and clients, maintaining professionalism at all times
- Guide and support junior engineers, providing mentorship and training opportunities
- Foster the growth and technical development of the fire engineering team
- Contribute to internal procedures and processes, including adherence to quality standards like ISO 9001
- Maintain records to ensure service levels and contractual obligations are met
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
- Coordinate with external collaborators and stakeholders on projects
- Contribute to the advancement of fire engineering practices through participation in seminars, conferences, and CPD events
- Assist with the strategic decision-making process alongside the Director of Fire Engineering
- Monitor and contribute to meeting project budget targets and financial goals
- Deliver technical presentations and training to clients, industry professionals, and students
- Perform additional tasks within the scope of your role as required
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Structural, Civil, or similar discipline)
- A Postgraduate qualification in Fire Engineering (e.g., certificate, diploma, or Master’s)
- Full membership with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and progressing towards or having achieved Chartered status
Key Skills and Competencies:
- At least 6 years of experience in fire safety engineering
- A strong passion for fire safety and a commitment to advancing in the field
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks independently
- Strong team player who can also work on their own initiative
- Professional demeanor and appearance
- Adaptable and able to respond to changing customer needs and priorities
- Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy
Desirable:
- Advanced computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Bluebeam
