UN WomenBackground:UN-Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.The Executive Board Secretariat, officiating from the Executive Director’s Office, is the interface between UN-Women and Member States of the United Nations. The Executive Board of UN-Women consists of the elected 41 Member States of the United Nations. The Secretary and the Secretariat team support the President of the Executive Board and the 4 Vice Presidents in organizing and delivering official and informal sessions and meetings of the Executive Board. This includes 3 official Board sessions, many informal briefings, the (joint) field visit of the Executive Boards, and the joint meeting of the Executive Boards of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS, UNICEF, UN-Women and WFP. In particular, the Secretariat team holds the following roles:– Provide support and advice to the Executive Director on all inter-governmental and political matters related to the Executive Board activities and proceedings;
– Support and facilitate inter-governmental negotiations of the Executive Board Decisions;
– Assist in substantive preparations of all documentation going to the Executive Board, by liaising with the substantive divisions who draft the report, with the Executive Director’s Office and the Executive Leadership Team;
– Assist in all logistical arrangements with regard to the Executive Board sessions and liaise with the UN Secretariat, Diplomatic Missions, regional groups, in-house divisions, etc;
– Facilitate the preparations for Executive Board field visits; and
– Assist in preparing the joint meetings of the Executive Boards of the Funds and Programmes.
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Board Programme Analyst, the incumbent is expected to assist in communications work and logistical and administrative arrangements in regard to the Executive Board. In particular, the incumbent will help finalize and regularly update a global note on the evolution of “agreed” and “non-agreed” language on gender equality in intergovernmental negotiations.Description of Responsibilities :Under the direct supervision of the Executive Board Programme Analyst, the incumbent is expected to perform the following tasks:– Support the Analyst and the team in the preparation of briefing notes, talking points and other documentation;
– Draft generic correspondence and provide administrative support to the Secretary of the Executive Board;
– Assist in communications work for the Executive Board Secretariat, including maintaining and updating the EB website, managing the Executive Board X account, monitoring the generic e-mail inbox, and updating e-mail distribution lists;
– Provide other logistical and administrative support to the Executive Board Secretariat and to official sessions, informal briefings, and related events;
– Perform other tasks as needed.

– Ability to adapt quickly to work demands, and changing deadlines.QualificationsEducation:– University studies in one of the following disciplines: Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations, or Philosophy or other relevant subjects is required.
– Meet one of the following:
– Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
– Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
– Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or
– Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.
Language:– Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
– Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
Remuneration:Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.Application Information:– Incomplete applications will not be considered.
