- Performing work activities in the Industrial Hygiene analytical laboratory.
- Ensuring proper sample receipt and processing.
- Maintaining field equipment list by managing calibration schedule and records.
- Assisting in the development of new analytical procedures.
- Participating in inspections, audits and program reviews.
- Conducting research as assigned.
- Participating in IH program implementation by assisting in creating and developing new programs.
- Providing on-the-job training to junior IH techs in IH field tasks.
- Performing physical, biological and chemical hazard assessments to support HSSE operations and ensure compliance with relevant procedures, programs, standards and/or regulations.
- Performing complex IH related field sampling and testing of physical, biological and chemical stressors including but not limited to: asbestos, silica, lead, mercury, mould, noise, non-ionizing radiation, and extreme temperature.
- Arranging and/or performing compressor and breathing air quality surveys (direct reading instruments and analytical techniques), and ventilation surveys including fume hood testing.
- Performing work activities in the Industrial Hygiene analytical laboratory.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position and normally has twelve (12) years of pertinent technological experience.
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma and more than fifteen (15) years of pertinent and progressive experience or equivalent experience, additional education and/or training.
- Experience
- Preferred to have at least 5 years of work experience in an analytical laboratory.
- Preferable to have at least 10-12 years of work experience in industrial hygiene field operations or a combination of experiences and IH-related training/education.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to function in an integrated work control team environment.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication (active listening, oral expression/comprehension) and training/presentation skills.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service.
- Familiarity with office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Knowledge of good laboratory work practices when working in the analytical laboratory.
- Familiarity with analytical instrumentation and applicable instrument software, including a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Able to work independently and as part of a team to complete assigned work
- Ability to manage duties through efficient planning, time management, detail orientation and prioritization.
- Ability to guide and mentor junior IH technical staff in field and laboratory analyses.
- Must be able to complete CNL’s IH Tech Training Plan successfully.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Physically able to stand and walk for up to 7.5 hrs a day.
- Ability to manage stairs, ladders and other egress equipment to enter all site and building areas, including confined spaces.
- Ability to use personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
