The University of Manchester Library is one of only five UK National Research Libraries, the third largest academic library in Britain and is widely acknowledged to be one of the great libraries of the world. The Library delivers both learning and research and one of the most significant public engagement programmes of any Library in the world as recognised by the University’s consistent top ten rankings in the THES Impact Rankings on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.The Head of Collections, Teaching and Research will work with the Director of The John Rylands Library to provide strategic leadership for the development, care, management and discovery of the Library’s outstanding Special Collections and work nationally and internationally in representing The University of Manchester.The Head of Collections, Teaching and Research will lead the development of policies, procedures and programmes to advance the management, development, care and promotion of our outstanding Special Collections as well as improving access to, and discovery of them. The role will also provide strategic leadership of the Library’s extensive Curatorial Team and will be the key senior partner to the University Librarian and Director of The John Rylands Library in leadership and strategic decision making within The University of Manchester Library and in the Special Collections Directorate.As a first element of the shortlisting process, we will assess candidate’s applications against the person specification in the job description.
