Our Chalk River location is looking for a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic who will be responsible for supplying mechanical trade services by troubleshooting, repairing, installing and fabrication of HVAC equipment to support the day-to-day operation of CNL industrial equipment and to ensure customer commitments are met.   • Troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, dismantling, installing, and adjusting all types of refrigeration, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, such as fans, compressors, condensers, pressure-regulating valves, expansion valves, pressure-control humidistats, thermostats, and water-regulating valves used in air conditioning work.
  • Balancing ventilation systems to design specifications and taking air velocity readings with a volumeter or other instruments used for this purpose after modifications have been made.
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, work packages, and reference materials to ensure that the scope of a given job is fully understood and that all aspects of the job have been considered and comply with AECL regulations and all applicable codes.
  • Performing leak checks.
  • Changing and discharging Freon cooling systems and gas-insulated x-ray equipment.
  • Installing Freon lines, flare, silver solder or soft soldering using Pres-To-Lite or Oxygen Acetylene Torch as required.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal, and AECL regulations in order to provide a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Attending monthly safety meetings and immediately report any safety concerns and/or infractions.
  • Applying Event Free Tools and Pre-job Brief information throughout the execution of assigned work and modelling this behaviour and knowledge to others.
  • Assisting in training, coaching and mentoring apprentices and co-op students in safe workshop practices and procedures, including work planning, assisting and developing skills by demonstrating techniques and describing suitable methods.
  • Monitoring, assessing and correcting work performance, discussing problems and improvements and reporting progress to supervisor and identifying further training needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for :

  • Education
  • Secondary school graduation diploma and qualification as a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic typically acquired through the completion of the required 9000-hour apprenticeship.
  • Experience
  • Experience with DDC (Distributed Digital Control Systems) would be an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of all applicable codes, standards and all applicable procedures in order to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Demonstrated use and endorsement of Personal Protection Equipment (PEE).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints and drawings.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across various disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to update and write procedures, create spreadsheets, input data, and communicate via email.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
