Background:
Yazda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014 in response to the genocide committed by the self-declared Islamic State (“IS”) against the Yazidis and other communities in Iraq and Syria.
The “Know Your Rights” program aims to empower survivors of ISIL atrocities, especially from the Yazidi community, by increasing their knowledge of their rights and their ability to advocate for them. As part of this program, Yazda is developing a dedicated webpage to increase outreach and access to materials related to minority rights, transitional justice, and legal protections for affected communities.
Scope of Service:
Yazda is seeking a Web Designer and Developer (UI/UX Developer) to review and redesign its existing website, with a particular focus on creating a dedicated page for the “Know Your Rights” training program. This page will serve as a central hub for presenting the training program and offering accessible resources such as training videos, booklets, and other materials. The consultant will be responsible for the following:
- Reviewing and Redesigning Yazda’s Website.
- Develop a dedicated webpage within the website for the “Know Your Rights” program. This page will present the details of the training program and offer easy access to training materials.
- Ensure that key training materials, including videos, downloadable booklets, and other relevant resources, are easily accessible to the public on the website
- Ensure that the website and training page are optimized for easy use and smooth user experience, considering the target audience, which includes community members with varying levels of digital literacy.
- Implement an online registration feature for individuals interested in signing up for the training program, with automated email confirmations and reminders.
- Provide ongoing support for the first 30 days after the website relaunch, helping with any technical issues and content updates.
Ethics:
It is essential that the trainer adheres to Yazda’s strict ethical and confidentiality guidelines. The trainer has to demonstrate they are keenly aware of survivor-centered and trauma-informed approaches.
Deliverables
- Website Redesign & Training Page: Revamp the existing Yazda website, creating a dedicated “Know Your Rights” page with easy access to training materials (videos, booklets, resources) for public use
- Online Registration: A secure system for training sign-ups and updates.
- Usability Report: A summary of testing, feedback, and updates.
- Post-Launch Support: 30 days of technical support for Yazda staff.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Skills and Qualifications:
Yazda is seeking an experienced Web Designer and Developer (UI/UX Developer) with the following qualifications:
- Proven experience in web development, with strong expertise in designing user-centric websites.
- Proficiency in HTML & CSS – Strong foundation in front-end development for creating well-structured, responsive web designs.
- WordPress and Drupal Development – Hands-on experience in customizing themes, plugins, and managing WordPress and Drupal-based websites.
- Experience with Design Software – Skilled in industry-standard tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Figma, and Canva for UI/UX design.
- Knowledge of SEO Best Practices – Ability to optimize web content and structure for search engine visibility and performance.
- Demonstrated ability to create responsive, accessible websites that meet the needs of diverse user groups.
- Experience with multimedia content integration (videos, photos, etc.) and creating secure registration systems.
- Familiarity with ethical guidelines for developing content for vulnerable communities.
