UNOPS Nepal context:

During 2015 – 2022 UNOPS Nepal has engaged closely with the Government of Nepal and several development partners in the reconstruction efforts of the government of Nepal including assessment of damaged buildings and enrolment of beneficiaries into housing grant schemes. UNOPS supported homeowners engaged in the reconstruction process, modernization and improvement of policing services, retrofitting damaged houses and reconstruction of disability-friendly schools, and delivering some essential equipment to support COVID-19 response efforts. The functional objective of UNOPS Nepal is to deliver its projects efficiently and effectively in alignment with government priorities following UNOPS rules and regulations, to achieve the outcomes sought by the Government and funding partners, and to contribute to the achievement of SDGs.

While ensuring gender, diversity, and inclusion are mainstreamed in all its projects, UNOPS Nepal is currently working on several new engagements to support the government of Nepal under Health, Rule of Law, Climate Change, DRR, Urban development, procurement support among others and create new opportunities and jobs for the people of Nepal.

In alignment with government priorities, the UNOPS Nepal country office looks forward to providing long-term strategic and advisory support to the country by enhancing the capacity of national and sub-national governments and partners within all three tiers of government. By prioritizing evidence-based planning, capacity building, and developing model projects for creating sustainable and inclusive cities, UNOPS Nepal country office also aims to build strong relationships with urban municipalities at the local level. Aiming to create a sustainable city by promoting a green and resilient, climate adaptive, and socially inclusive development approach the assignment will focus on prioritizing the municipalities for its future interventions.

Project Information:

The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) funded Security and Justice Programme (SJP) will continue the Integrated Programme for Strengthening Security and Justice’s dual focus of tackling criminal violence and other causes of public insecurity, in particular gender-based violence (GBV), and strengthening the service delivery capacity of the Nepal Police (NP) and other key duty-bearers. FCDO’s SJP is a five-year programme (2023-2027) with an anticipated budget of up to GBP 35 million.

As part of the FCDO’s programme, UNOPS as an implementing partner, is delivering the SJP Policing Component from May 2024-2027. This will contribute towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5 (Gender Equality) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

The multi-year SJP will support more representative, accountable, and responsive policing and also help tackle gender-based violence in Nepal. The programme will contribute to the following result areas:

1. Security and justice providers have improved their capacity to serve the public and manage relationships with communities, leading to increased public safety with increased trust from people in the state.

2. Security and justice institutions at the Provincial and Palika levels have effective, accountable, inclusive, and sustainable systems in line with the federal constitutional mandates to improve their skills and better manage their resources to meet people’s security and justice needs.

3. Decreased prevalence of GBV led by increased access to services for those who seek them.

 

 

The incumbent will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Compile and document project information, including proposals, legal agreements, progress reports, presentations, and meeting records.
  • Maintain and update project files and records in corporate files, ensuring their accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide logistical support in setting up meetings, workshops, and events, including, scheduling, and preparation of meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Track project milestones, deadlines, and deliverables, providing regular status updates to the Programme Management Team.
  • Prepare and submit progress updates to support the Quarterly Assurance process in alignment with the project and organization requirements.
  • Support in monitoring project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial plan and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain a risk register and provide updates on risk management, contributing to the development of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide general communication support for the project, including internal communications and outreach materials.
  • Assist in the development of proposals and communication with potential donors and partners.
  • Take notes and prepare minutes of the meetings.
  • Support in the preparation of briefing materials and ensure all the relevant documentation and information is available for external meetings and engagements.

 

 

Education:

  • A High School Diploma is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in international relations; public administration; social science, economics or related field will be considered an asset and may substitute the required years of experience.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a support services role is required, preferably in a project management, programme management, environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are desirable.
  • Strong computer literacy in Google Suite applications or equivalent MS Office standard programs, in particular proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is desirable.
  • Experience with UNOPS systems and procedures is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the UNOPS mission and values.

Language:

  • Fluency in writing, reading, and speaking English is required

Terms and Conditions
