CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional for the position of Field Research Technician, Pathology to work in the Global Wheat Program (GWP). 

Specific duties:

  • Extensively participate in field operations such as sowing, management, disease inoculation, disease evaluation, and harvest.
  • Execute greenhouse work, such as wheat disease experiments at seedling or adult plant stages, fungal virulence experiments, and seed multiplication.
  • Execute laboratory work such as collection, characterization and maintenance of fungal pathogens, inoculum preparation, DNA extraction, molecular marker diagnosis, and mycotoxin contamination evaluation.
  • Participate in the collection of agronomic data of crops using measurement instruments assigned to the unit.
  • Participate in warehouse work like seed storage and preparation.
  • Interaction with fellow workers, visitors and students from Mexico as well as foreign countries.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agronomy or related scientific field. Desirable to have a master’s in plant Pathology or Microbiology, Agronomy, Sciences, Phytotechnics or related.
  • The selected candidate must have 1-2 years of experience if they hold a master’s degree or 4-5 years of experience if they do not.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to do basic statistics and field map preparation.
  • Advanced level in English (English test will be administered; candidate must score a minimum of B2 as per CEFR).
