The Director, Strategic Human Resources Business Partner will lead and oversee the delivery of effective human resource advisory services and solutions. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Business Partnerships & Labour Relations and working closely with divisional leadership teams, this position is responsible for providing expert knowledge and creative thought leadership in all areas of strategic HR services.   • In consultation with senior management, developing and progressing short and long-term HR goals and plans that support the objectives of the portfolio; supporting implementation of sensitive initiatives including realignment of units, integration of units, growth initiatives, re-focuses HR priorities in order to meet clients’ needs and objectives, accomplishment of client goals taking into account operational and political environments, values and culture, short and long-term implications; as well as supporting the achievement of HR related organizational and divisional strategic objectives and relevant KPIs.
  • Providing strategic advice and operational expertise to senior leaders on HR issues.
  • Undertaking reviews of organizational structures, job design and employment issues within the portfolio; developing strategies, plans, programs, and procedures to support organizational objectives.
  • Developing succession and strategic workforce plans based on clients’ projected future workforce needs and critical functions and roles. Working with management on training and development needs, identifying skill gaps and creating/recommending programs which align with existing and future needs of the business.
  • Providing leadership to a team of Senior Managers, and Strategic Human Resources Business Partners (SHRBP) and overseeing all HR projects within their portfolios.
  • Creating a working environment that is aligned with the organization’s desire to be a “best company to work for”, ensuring that people resources possess the required skills, are properly aligned, and are provided with the resources to do the job.
  • Leading and participating in enterprise-wide HR projects and initiatives, as required.

Job Specific Knowledge/Experience:

  • Completion of a degree (minimum Bachelor, Master preferred) in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related program – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Proven progressive experience as a leader of HR Generalists and HRBPs.
  • Solid experience leading and supporting change management, transformation, and strategic workforce planning, and managing labour and employee relations.
  • Proven experience leading and collaborating in large, unionized environments and with complex matrix focused, multi-stakeholder organizations.
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (“CHRL”) designation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant Canadian HR and Employee/Labour relations legislation.

  • You have a strong track record of building trust, credibility and collaborative relationships with teams, clients, and partners.
  • You are an effective communicator, negotiator and consensus builder who can work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to advance shared priorities and manage complex issues.
  • You are a skilled communicator with proven experience providing succinct briefings, advice, and effective presentations on complex issues in a clear and understandable manner to all levels of leadership.
  • You exercise sound judgement and take a systems-wide view when developing and providing advice to complex issues to optimize outcomes to all stakeholders.
