The convening of the Youth for Disarmament Forum provides a unique platform for young people to voice their perspectives, share innovative ideas, and collaborate on solutions to global challenges, thereby harnessing the energy, creativity, and commitment of young advocates and fostering a new generation of leaders in disarmament, non-proliferation, and arms control. Such a forum would not only amplify youth voices but also bridge the gap between young advocates and policymakers through an inclusive intergenerational/multigenerational approach, ensuring that youth perspectives are integrated into decision-making processes. The Forum would facilitate the creation of robust networks among youth advocates from diverse backgrounds, promoting cross-cultural, cross-regional, and cross-sectoral understanding and cooperation. These networks are essential for building a cohesive and sustainable global movement towards disarmament, as they enable the exchange of best practices, resources, and support among youth leaders. In support of the Youth for Disarmament Forum, the Project Consultant will be responsible for: a) Designing and implementing the first-ever Youth for Disarmament Forum in accordance with UNODA’s youth outreach framework; b) Facilitating the creation of robust networks among youth advocates from diverse backgrounds, promoting cross-cultural, cross-regional, and cross-sectoral understanding and cooperation essential for building a cohesive and sustainable global movement towards disarmament; c) Enabling the exchange of best practices, resources, and support between youth leaders and policymakers through a multigenerational approach.Work LocationRemote position; travel to New York will be requiredExpected duration9 monthsDuties and ResponsibilitiesIn support of the Youth for Disarmament Forum, the Project Consultant will be responsible for: A) Designing and implementing the first-ever Youth for Disarmament Forum in accordance with UNODA’s youth outreach framework; B) Faciliating the creation of robust networks among youth advocates from diverse backgrounds, promoting cross-cultural, cross-regional, and cross-sectoral understanding and cooperation essential for building a cohesive and sustainable global movement towards disarmament; C) Enabling the exchange of best practices, resources, and support between youth leaders and policy-makers through multi-generational approach.Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, international law, political science, international relations, development studies, or related fields is required. A first-level university degree, in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of three years of relevant work experience in social sciences, international law, political science, international relations, development studies, or related fields is required. Experience in progressively responsible roles supporting program implementation, advocacy, capacity development, and working with youth on social and human sciences, peacebuilding, and/or conflict resolution at the global and cross-regional levels is required. Experience in communications, outreach, training, and/or capacity-building initiatives is desirable. Knowledge of the work of the United Nations is desirable. Knowledge of multilateral disarmament issues, as well as youth education and empowerment in disarmament, is also desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Consultancy . Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
