With over five billion dollars under management, serving as a strategic partner to Canada’s most innovative firms, we offer the full spectrum of risk capital, from seed investments to growth capital.Supporting the Director, Fund Investments, the associate will focus on enhancing BDC Capital Funds team across the areas of operational excellence, portfolio insights & thought leadership as well as enhanced investment decision-making.CHALLENGES TO BE METOperations Management & AdministrationCreate strategic review materials under the direction of the Director, Fund Investments (annual presentations to executive committee, investment committee and board, etc.)Oversee and support quarterly write-off review and quarterly fair value adjustmentsActs as point of reference and be knowledgeable in supporting our reporting processesIdentify and implement internal process improvements related to portfolio monitoring systems and tools, investment decisions, etc.Liaise with Ops and Strategy team for all internal and external data requests and initiativesCollaborate in the management of portfolio monitoring and financial systems, including oversight of data collection processOversee adequate document management (Sharepoint Super User, control permissions, etc.)Portfolio AnalyticsMaintain portfolio construction analysis and tracking against targets (quarterly and authorization); includes regular pipeline analysisMaintain authorization and cash flow forecasts (annual corporate plan process)Prepare detailed market analysis and run analytical forecast models as required under the direction of the Director, Fund Investments.Manage internal quarterly reporting including manager scoring and deal flow, operations review, and develop enhanced portfolio dashboarding to better guide Funds team decision-making through portfolio insightsLead the development/improvement of templates to support due diligenceEnsure ongoing enhancement of portfolio analysis methodologies (e.g. tracking new information or analyzing existing data in new ways)Assist in the development of key business metrics, benchmark indicators, and trending reports to monitor performance and support thought leadership.Support and/or lead innovative research projects for publication, leveraging BDC’s proprietary data sets (e.g. DEI/ESG annual data collection and Report, Venture Capital Landscape, etc.)Participate in team discussions, including pipeline management; review of investment opportunities and investment recommendations; fund investment strategy.Participate in activities in support of deal teams underwriting new fundsWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORBachelor’s degree in Commerce or equivalent (concentration in finance/accounting preferred).Minimum 3-5 years relevant work experience; experience in venture capital/private equity funds an assetStrong research/financial modeling/analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.Demonstrated initiative/curiosity to look beyond surface facts/conduct comprehensive fact-based value-added research.
