We provide rapid access along busy commuter routes to our seven cities, servicing the varied needs of our business and leisure commuter services, including cross border services and rural services. We have up to 50 freight services operating every day and we are steadily building capacity for this to grow. You’ll be accountable for managing a section of the rail network and will manage and develop a large maintenance team. You’ll drive safety and efficiency across diverse works.The Distribution & Plant team for Scotland’s Railway look after equipment across some of the busiest parts of the network between Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as some of the most scenic parts which includes the Banavie swing bridge in Fort William, West Highland line and Highland Main line. This team keeps power flowing through the electrified rails safely and efficiently. The team work on the nuts, bolts and cables of the electrification system to make sure that the railway has the power to run the trains, signals and stations.Based out of our Edinburgh depot, you would be working with an experienced team of High Voltage engineers ensuring our 25kV network is maintained to highest standards. You will collaborate with our Overhead Line and Telecoms departments to provide a reliable service to our train operating customers.As the Railway is a 24/7 operation, there is a requirement for on call response commitment as well as the occasional need to work away from home. Our Section Managers work in all conditions at all times of the year – day and night.You will be provided with high quality tools, PPE and equipment to ensure you are able to deliver quality work. Ongoing training will be provided as you continue to develop your skills.We are interested to hear from candidates who have electrical experience as well as knowledge of High Voltage working arrangements.This is a 12 Month Secondment / Fixed Term position.About the role (External)What to expect?Here are some of the duties your role will include:In this key role, you will be accountable for managing a section of the rail network. Leading a large maintenance team, you will enjoy significant responsibilities. Managing in-house teams and contractors alike, you’ll make a vital contribution to the success of our ambitious plans. From signalling to track and electrification, you’ll proactively direct the work of teams delivering inspections, renewals and maintenance of diverse infrastructure assets. You’ll be personally responsible for planning, inspecting and implementing important tactical works. This is role is operational and there will be an element of on call and out of hours contact needed.Championing safety as a top priority, you’ll have the authority to recommend any necessary renewals.
