Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Nicosia. The incumbent will report to the Chief, Field Technology Section (FTS) or to his/her designate.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Chief Service Management Unit (FTS-SMU), the Telecommunications Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: Voice and Data Network Operations: • Provide maintenance support for UNFICYP Voice and Data network. • Install and configure end user equipment such as computers, IP phones, printers, dashcams, bodycams, trapcams, satellite phones, etc. • Install and repair voice and LAN infrastructure cabling connection points were necessary. • Maintain accurate infrastructure cabling records and related area map consolidations. • Prepares and revises network diagrams and all related documentation. • Performs other related duties as required. UHF Radio Infrastructure: • Assist in management of mission UHF radio system network operations. • Configure and install critical UHF radio equipment such as UHF mobile/portable radios, UHF repeaters, duplexers, etc. • Install and maintain radio equipment in UNFICYP vehicles, including UHF mobile radios, UHF/GPS antennas, dashcams, etc. • Maintain accurate inventory and technical records. • Perform cross training where necessary. • Update relevant SOP’s where necessary. Audio/Visual Conference Services: • Install, configure and tests audio, video conference and desktop video conference hardware/software using available communication and network connectivity. • Assists in meetings’ preparation by preparing and configuring conference hardware and operating equipment during conferences. • Provide support and training for new users of conference systems. • Research and evaluate new conference products ensuring compatibility with current operational standards and growth for future needs. Telephone Billing Support: • Provide operational technical assistance and support to the Telphone Billing unit. • Provide hardware and software support e.g. Mobile devices, Tablets, and Satellite Phones. • Ensure that clear and accurate records of all registered telephone subscriptions and all related documentation are maintained. • Perform other related duties as required. OPERATIONS SUPPORT – BUDGETING, PROCUREMENT, REPORTING: • Provide budget inputs for the Units Operations, including narrative justifications • Responsible for processing Low Value Acquisition Documents (LVA’s) for procuring readily available telecommunication goods and services. • Assist in providing technical guidance for the receiving and inspecting process. • Coordinating the scheduled, preventative and corrective maintenance on ICT equipment. • Ensure that all required spare parts and supplies are maintained. • Prepare recurring reports on telecommunication assets and advice on items low in stock or end of life • Process and complete all assigned service requests promptly, adhering to established Service Level Agreement (SLA)s and Key Performance Indicators (KPI)s. • Provide advice to clients regarding FTS standards, UN policies and workflow processes. • Prepare and maintain, as and when needed, reports and related statistics on telecommunication services and equipment. • Draft and revise mission related Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)s. • Provide related input for Statement of Work (SOW). • Participate in the technical evaluation committee. • Complete quarterly contract performance reports.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Relevant technical or vocational training in telecommunications or another related area is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible work experience in advanced telecommunications or related areas is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
