OPEN TO NATIONALS OF NATO MEMBER STATES ONLYJob Title: Analyst (Warfare Research)NATO Body: Headquarters Allied Maritime Command (HQ MARCOM)Location: Northwood, Middlesex, UKBasic Monthly Salary: 5,593.67 GBPContract Length: 6 months (with possibility to extend to 12 months – see Contract section below)Closing Date: 09 March 2025SECURITY CLEARANCE: NATO SECRET (NS)POST CONTEXTHeadquarters Allied Maritime Command is the Maritime Theatre Component Commander delivering 360 degree maritime focused awareness and connectivity while planning and commanding the full range of maritime operations.The Plans Directorate directs the delivery of operational planning and advantage functions and activities.The N7 Division directs, coordinates, supervises, plans and conducts Education, Training, Exercises and evaluation in the maritime domain.The Evaluation and Lessons Learned Branch leads Maritime Evaluations and processes the NATO lessons learned concept for the Maritime domain.The incumbent will deliver analysis services to exercises and operations in support of the Lessons Learned (LL) process, based on analytical research products extracted from tactical reports to capture insights for capability gaps detection, to recommend remedial actions for improvements, with main focus but not only, in Under and Above Water Warfare, all to gain operational advantage.REQUIREMENTThere is a requirement to recruit an individual on a 6 month contract (with a possibility to extend to 12 months) in order to undertake the following duties:DUTIES– Conducts analysis activities to meet operational needs for exercises and operations, and in support of the LL process: leads LL analysis projects, studies and LL related activities where specialist analysis in the Under and Above Water Warfare, and research methods and experience are required;– Assists with the development of analysis and LL policies, concepts, and doctrine within the HQ and for the HQ’s role in the NCS.– Plans, coordinates and undertakes data collection from tactical reports for analysis, NATO LL Portal, literature review, research interviews, survey and observations, including through deployment to theatres of operations or exercise/training venues as necessary, in order to solve a wide variety of problems of dissimilar nature in the context of NATO maritime military exercises and operations;– Contribute to the analysis of tactical exercises to support the MARCOM IDT operational analysis;– Applies interpretative, analytical, constructive thinking and judgement to select solutions and make evidence-based recommendations for the continuous improvement of NATO maritime capabilities;– Plans, writes, and presents analysis products to draw conclusions from LL and makes appropriate recommendations for improvements and amendments to policy and doctrine activities;– Attends meetings, conferences or training events to deliver analysis related presentations and / or to collect data;– Liaise with relevant NATO staffs and subject matter expertsSKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED· Experience in Military Operational Analysis and operational research. Activities that apply knowledge of the environment, system composition and technologies for Maritime Operations.· Knowledge and experience of NATO.· Knowledge and experience of military operations and exercises.· Experience working with military personnel.· Experience working in an international environment.· Previous assignment in a post in maritime warfare area.· Practical experience of research and analysis.PERSONAL ATTRIBUTESThe successful candidate should have the following personal attributes:· Initiative and judgement in dealing with a wide variety of issues.· Must be a quick thinker, able to handle last minute requests.· Uses own initiative to propose solutions for unexpected problems and determine which issues to refer to the Chief.· Must be capable of handling details.ESSENTIAL LANGUAGE AND SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTSLanguageThe work both oral and written in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English. As a result, it is essential that the incumbent of this post has sufficient English language skills at the following level:English – PLS 3333 – (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing)Security ClearanceThis post requires the incumbent to hold a NATO Security Clearance at the level of “NATO Secret”.As the requirement is for an individual to fill this post as soon as practically possible and the fact that it is only for a period of 6 months it is essential that the successful candidate has either:· Current NATO Secret (or Higher) Security ClearanceOr· Current National equivalent of NATO Secret (or Higher) Security ClearanceOr· Recently held NATO Secret (or Higher) Security Clearance that will result in an expedited process to renew the clearance.Unfortunately, candidates that do not meet this requirement will be sifted out.CONTRACT DETAILSThe successful candidate will be offered a 6-month temporary contract.There is a possibility that the contract period can be extended, but if it is extended then it can only be extended for a further 6 months resulting in a maximum period of employment of 1 year.Temporary personnel are not classified as NATO International Civilians. Therefore, the successful candidate will have to pay tax and national insurance based on their monthly salary.
