The post-holder will have a leading role in planning, coordinating, managing and completing research projects undertaken in collaboration with the Suicide, Risk and Safety Research Unit (SSRU), in particular projects led by Professor Gill Haddock (SSRU Director) and Professor Dan Pratt (SSRU Co-Director). These include, but are not limited to, clinical trials with people with a history of psychosis, self-harm and suicidal behaviour.They will have excellent communication and presentation skills, together with the ability to organize and motivate others. They will demonstrate flair, enthusiasm, innovation and leadership when faced with challenges and will provide strategic, tactical and operational management skills in the planning and execution of the research projects under their management.Main duties of the jobThe post-holder will provide supervision to research assistants and other staff. In addition, the post will involve contributing to high quality research by supporting applications for funding for research from external funding agencies i.e. the National Institute for Health Research.The post-holder will contribute to research carried out by Professor Haddock and Professor Pratt by acting where necessary as an applicant on grants submitted by other SSRU researchers, thereby contributing to the high-quality research carried out by the unit. The post-holder will work within the policies, procedures and guidelines for the Trust. The post-holder will work autonomously but plan and organize their work schedule and tasks within the parameters of the Job Plan agreed with their manager.This post is offered on a 12-month fixed term basis with possibility of extension.   • A good degree in psychology or related subject (2:1 or above)
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology

Desirable

  • PhD in Psychology/Clinical Psychology

ExperienceEssential

  • Experience of presenting psychology-related research at national or international conferences to disseminate and raise the profile of research studies
  • Experience of providing research supervision to others (e.g. research assistants)
  • Significant experience of designing, managing, implementing and writing up research

Desirable

  • Experience of conducting randomised controlled trials
  • Experience of supporting research grant applications for funding from external agencies, e.g. the National Institute for Health Research

KnowledgeEssential

  • High level of knowledge about psychological research in areas relevant to the work of SSRU
  • A thorough knowledge of statistics and research methodology (quantitative and qualitative)
