Job Summary What is the opportunity?As an Associate Director, you will support Directors in RBC’s Real Estate Markets team in Southwestern Ontario in the origination, structuring, administration, and management of construction financing and term debt facilities. You will be responsible for analyzing and underwriting loan requests with the use of RBC’s Risk Assessment Framework, Financial Analysis, and Credit Tools.The primary responsibility of the Associate Director is to partner closely with the Directors, Real Estate Markets to understand client credit needs, circumstances, and risk profiles through proactive and regular client contact. Other responsibilities of the Associate Director include administration of the team’s lending portfolio, performing annual credit reviews, partnering with internal and external stakeholders in the credit process, and actively participating in team initiatives (industry research reports, ad hoc portfolio strategy requests, portfolio management reporting, etc.)Job DescriptionWhat will you do?
- Focus on financing requests in the Southwestern Ontario real estate markets, supporting a variety of real estate asset classes and lending product types.
- Provide Directors with specific deal support as it relates to bilateral and syndicated loans including budgetary analysis, cash flow analysis, sensitivity analysis, financial statements analysis, market analysis, credit underwriting, and funding.
- Prepare credit submissions and assist with other documentation related to the transaction approval process including assistance related to pipeline management, SLR strategies, ETAs, and syndications.
- Provide portfolio quality management oversight as it relates to managing credit expiries, out-of-orders, and loan maturities.
- As directed by the VP or Director, assist in the preparation and presentation of marketing pitches to existing and potential clients.
What do you need to succeed?Must-have:
- Good understanding of commercial real estate fundamentals.
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance with strong quantitative, financial modeling, and analytical skills, as well as an ability to analyze company financial statements.
- Experience in commercial credit specifically commercial real estate underwriting analysis.
- Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple requests to meet client needs.
- Strong computer skills (especially Microsoft Excel).
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Must be an independent worker and team player with a positive attitude.
- Motivated proactive thinker with detail-oriented and creative problem-solving approach.
- Ability to quickly develop a working knowledge of programs and systems employed by RBC.
- Ongoing and consistent adoption of RBC goals and core values.
Nice-to-have:
- 3+ years of experience in real estate underwriting or lending.
- MBA, CFA, CPA, or other professional designation.
- Interest in commercial real estate financing, knowledge of major market players, and an awareness of industry trends.
