If you are looking for exciting and challenging work this Winter, keep reading, and if you meet the requirements of this role, apply today!The Thermalhydraulics & Safety Analysis Branch is responsible for the development, validation and application of computer codes and analysis tools in support of design and safety analysis of current CANDU and Small Modular Reactors (SMR). Capabilities in the areas of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and multi-physics & multi-scale modelling and analysis (including sensitivity and uncertainty analyses) are applied to safety assessments and analysis for design-basis and beyond-design-basis accidents, and severe accident scenarios in nuclear reactors. The branch also develops advanced reactor concepts and technologies. The Thermalhydraulics Analysis Summer Student will join our experienced team and help with thermalhydraulics assessments for CANDU and SMR applications. Duration: 4 months (May – August)
Field of Study: Engineering (e.g., Nuclear / Mechanical / Chemical / Industrial or similar) or Science from a university of recognized standing.
Year of study: 3rd year of studiesWhat you will be doing:

  • Establishing and/or modifiying of models for thermal-hydraulics code validation against experiments applicable to CANDU, boiling water reactor (BWR), high-temperature gas-cooled reactor or molten salt reactor (MSR) analysis.
  • Quantification of code accuracy against measurement data.
  • Investigating of uncertainty and accuracy assessment methodologies.
  • Possible code development to enable accuracy quantification or automation of validation process.
  • Documentation of the models, methods and analysis results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • Engineering (e.g., Nuclear / Mechanical / Chemical / Industrial or similar) or Science from a university of recognized standing.
  • Experience
  • Experience on C++/C# or other languages coding will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Applicant should have knowledge of single- and two-phase fluid flow and heat transfer, statistics and computer code development.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
