Do you enjoy observing field and lab work?If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!The Groundwater Monitoring Program of Environmental Services at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) has a well-established team of professionals, technologists, laboratory attendants and utility workers who provide technical services, information, and evaluations that support the environmental monitoring of CNL sites. The team is actively involved in developing, maintaining, and facilitating environmental monitoring at CNL. CNL has established a site wide Environmental Data Management System (EDMS) that will contain all the previous and future environmental data collected for the site. Whilst much of the historical data has been incorporated, there are still a variety of data (e.g., water level, stratigraphy, recently collected groundwater and soil quality) yet to be processed and transferred to EDMS. Field of Study: Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Immunology and other Biological Sciences, Environmental SciencesYear of study: 2nd yearWhat you will be doing:
- Participating in a company-wide project to implement a GIS-based environmental data management system for CNL’s wide diversity of environmental data.
- Participating in field walk downs and observe laboratory work to understand how samples are obtained and analyzed to generate the required data.
- Assisting in capital asset tracking and accounting.
- Attending meetings on software system usage and integration.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Immunology and other Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Great attention to details
- Knowledge of environmental sciences, specifically in groundwater monitoring and geohydrology would be considered an asset.
- Proficient in the use of various database systems including Excel and Access
- Effective communication skills, oral and written.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
